“The Middle” Season 1 finale satisfactory

“The Middle’s” Season 1 finale, airing May 19 at 7:30 p.m. on ABC,  is enjoyable.

If you’re already a fan, you’ll appreciate another episode featuring this middle class family’s spunky ways.

If you haven’t seen the show before, tune in and give it a shot.

Patricia Heaton as mom Frankie, Neil Flynn as dad Mike, Charlie McDermott as big brother Axl, Eden Sher as middle child Sue and Atticus Shaffer as the youngest sibling Brick each have their own fun characteristics.

Betty White also appears in this finale episode as the school librarian after Brick to return 31 books or he won’t get to graduate to third grade – and she’s serious about this matter. White is a treat in this role, as she usually is in anything she does.

I don’t watch this show on a regular basis, but it is decent, though I think it’s a little over the top at times.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d rate “The Middle’s” Season 1 finale a 7.

“THE VAMPIRE DIARIES”

Season 1 Finale: Thursday, May 13 at 7 p.m. on The CW.

Network Info: In “The Vampire Diaries” finale, Founder’s Day has finally arrived, and everyone is busy with last-minute preparations for floats and fireworks.  Stefan (Paul Wesley) is uncomfortable with Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) new attitude toward Elena (Nina Dobrev), but Elena is more concerned about repairing her relationship with Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen).  Jeremy is worried about Anna (guest star Malese Jow), but not sure he’s on board with her latest plan for the future.  While Caroline (Candice Accola) is enjoying her day as Queen of the celebration, she also tries to help Matt (Zach Roerig) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) get their friendship back on track.  Finally, although Damon and Alaric (Matt Davis) do their best to stop him, Johnathan Gilbert (guest star David Anders) sets a plan in motion that brings Founder’s Day to an end amid chaos, destruction and death.  Sara Canning and Katerina Graham also star.

TV Blog Input: “The Vampire Diaries” is one of my most favorite TV shows. The Damon/Elena/Stefan vampire love triangle is impossible to resist while the story lines move along at a nimble pace. And, of course, there are stars Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, who by themselves make it worth watching.

“COLD CASE”

Season 7 Finale: Sunday, May 2, 8 to 10 p.m, on CBS

Network Info:  In part one of a two-part episode at a special time, Rush (Kathryn Morris) tries to ignore her father’s appeals to give her troublemaker sister (played by Oklahoma native Nicki Aycox) another chance after she suddenly resurfaces. In part two, Valens (Danny Pino) partners with Rush (Kathryn Morris) to locate her abducted, drug-addicted sister, while Jeffries (Thom Barry) tries to bring justice to the case of a murdered teenaged girl that has haunted him for 17 years. Music by The Rolling Stones will play exclusively throughout this episode, including the never-before-heard song “So Divine (Aladdin Story),” which will be one of the ten previously unheard bonus tracks to be included on the May 18 re-release of the Rolling Stones’ album “Exile on Main Street.” “Tumbling Dice,” “Beast of Burden” and “Undercover of the Night” are also among the Stones tunes included in this show.

TV Blog Input: I’ve enjoyed this show from its start – along with its strong acting, the marriage of the music to each story and its time frame is hard to beat, reminding how easy it is to go back to a certain time or place in your own life when a song is played, and justice for the cold case victim is usually served as well. Hope “Cold Case” gets to come back for another season. — Melissa Hayer
