Finally! A good ‘SYTYCD’ website!

In the past eight seasons, “So You Think You Can Dance” has delivered stellar choreography, emotional back stories and tear-jerking performances. What they didn’t have was a user-friendly website. In fact, it was pathetic.

I’m happy to announce that with season eight comes a great, up-to-date website, with full episodes online less than a week after airdate, and clips online as soon as the next day sometimes. After struggling to use the previous incarnation, I’m quite happy.

Highlights:

As a blogger, this is very helpful. But even as an active watcher, I find the website is more helpful and useful to the average fan.

Three new dance routines for SYTYCD’s National Dance Day

Hey “So You Think You Can Dance” Fans, or really, anyone who likes to dance:

The second annual National Dance Day, presented by “So You Think You Can Dance” and its Dizzy Feet Foundation, is July 30. SYTYCD judges and choreographers have created three new routines just for the day. There is a basic, intermediate and a “master class” dance  you can learn. Regular SYTYCD judge Mary Murphy shows how to do the basic dance, new judge Robyn Antin of the Pussycat Dolls teaches the intermediate, and the choreography duo of NappyTabs shows how to do the more advanced version.

Final three on “So You Think You Can Dance”

"So You Think You Can Dance" -- The final four (now, the final three): AdeChike, Lauren, Robert, Kent

There really aren’t many surprises left on SYTYCD now that Billy Bell has gone home. When the judges let he and Jose go last week, we knew AdeChicke would be the fourth one out.

That leaves Lauren, Kent and Robert to dance next week at the two finale shows.

AdeChicke, while a powerful, athletic dancer, doesn’t have the flowing grace that the other dancers bring. The judges have roundly criticized him to “open his back” and to put more emotion into his performances. Either he couldn’t or wouldn’t. I suspect it’s the former.

So, who will take it all?

It’s all about the numbers, because the judges are out of the picture. The callers will vote for their favorites.

SYTYCD and Cat Deeley jewelry

Just a reminder that SYTYCD comes on Wednesdays (performance shows) and Thursdays (results shows).

But here’s news flash! Host Cat Deeley, who has become quite the style icon since hosting the show in 2006, has a new line of jewelry to debut on shopping channel QVC. Called Modern Vintage, the line is inspired by vintage stores from around the world. Deeley apparently loves anything vintage, especially jewelry. According to QVC, “Cat has created a line of fashion necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings especially for QVC. Influenced by generations before but modern enough to pull off with jeans and a t-shirt or a little black dress.”

Russell Ferguson, krumper, is America’s Favorite Dancer

russell_ferguson_dance

“So You Think You Can Dance” fans called in and crowned Russell Ferguson winner of season 6. Jakob Karr was runner up, and two women, Ellenore and Kathryn, made the top four.

The two-hour show brought back dancers from the top 20 in season six for several performances, and four musical acts: Leona Lewis, who sang the theme to “Avatar,” Mary J. Blige; Adam Lambert and J.Lo herself, Jennifer Lopez in her titular shoes, Louboutins.

Lisa Potts and I do our usual dish, for the last time this season!

So You Think You Can Dance Finale! UPDATE — Russell wins!

FinaleC

Russell (center) won the show, with Jakob (far right) as the runner up.

What a show! Adam Lambert! Leona Lewis! Mary J. Blige! Jennifer Lopez!

Oh yeah, there were some dancers, too. And the winner is … RUSSELL! Jakob came in second.

Whether or not you think Russell is the best dancer, he is now crowned America’s Favorite Dancer. And as a Krumper, he makes dance show history.

He told US Weekly what he would do with this $250,000 and what his plans are.

Jakob had given amazing performances all season, and I would have been happy for him to win.

And now, I turn it over to my co-host, Lisa Potts …

“I’m a little dissappointed that Jakob didn’t win but yet … Russell was incredible all season and to have a krumper win the show is great. He is a great representative for the show. Jakob will have an amazing career without winning the show.”

I agree, Lisa. We also agree that it was wonderful for Ellenore and Kathryn made the top four. And, it was fitting that married couple Ashleigh and Ryan were eliminated one after the other, 5 and 6. But luckily AFTER we got to see them perform together with a very cool jive.

Lisa and I will dish more about the show Thursday. Check out the podcast here at NewsOK.com.

Whom did you vote for? Jakob, Russell, Ashleigh?

I admit that I voted for Ellenore 12 times. Still, that is no grand feat compared to other fans who voted hundred times and over for their favorite dancer.

Tonight, we find out who will be the winner of season six.

Your podcast co-hosts, Lisa Potts and I, will watch the show tonight at a watch party and we’ll blog about it tonight. Then, tomorrow, we’ll dish the results and the gossip on the podcast here.

I won’t be disappointed. There are some amazing and talented dancers in the finale, and I’d be happy for any of them to win.

Other SYTYCD fan sites such as Buddy TV and SYTYCDism will provide instant commentary after the show.

‘So You Think You Can Dance’: Final six

legacyandmollee

America got it right this week: Mollee and Legacy went home. I’m a Legacy fan, and I would have been just as satisfied if Ryan was eliminated. But there are so many other fine dancers, and someone had to go. Mollee, on the other hand, was way past elimination time. I agree with the judges that Broadway style really suits her, but if she stayed, she would have been in the way of another MORE talented female dancer.

So, the final six are: Russell, Jakob, Ellenore, Ashleigh, Kathryn and Ryan. I’d be happy for nearly all of them to come out on top.

Lisa Potts and I have our own opinions about who should, and will win, and we express them on today’s podcast. Take a listen.

BuddyTV is so obssessed with “So You Think You Can Dance” that it put the show into both its Best and Worst Shows of ’09.

Check it out for yourself, but suffice it to say, Season 6 is not on BuddyTV’s favorite list. Watch it tonight and the results show Wednesday. We’ll blog and link to our podcast Thursday.
