Daris reunited with mom Cheryl on ‘The Biggest Loser’ — but only briefly

Three weeks ago, Cheryl George from Ardmore was voted off of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser.” But she came back on Tuesday’s episode (March 30) along with the other eliminated contestants.
Two of them got to stay at the ranch to continue their weight-loss quest. Cheryl was not one of them.
“I would love to come back and finish my weight loss,” she said. “Anything but clean the kitchen.”
That’s what she told the remaining contenders during her “vote me back” speech. But she didn’t receive a vote (her son Daris couldn’t vote for her). And she didn’t win the 1,000 step challenge for the other spot back on the ranch.
Cheryl, 51, still looked happy. So did Daris. At least they got to see each other. And viewers can see the results of their weight-loss journey thus far.
Daris, 25, has the best weight-loss percentage on “The Biggest Loser” campus. He dropped seven pounds in Week 11 and weighs 237.
“I came here to go all the way,” he said. “That’s what my plan is, and seven pounds is going to do that this week.”
During her Week 11 appearance, Cheryl weighed in an 176. During her “Biggest Loser” transformation moment at the end of Week 8, however, she was down to 164.

Oklahoma cowboys still contenders on ‘Amazing Race’

Last week on “The Amazing Race,” Oklahoma cowboys Jet and Cord McCoy got lost — twice. In this week’s episode that aired Sunday (March 28), they had to backtrack to retrieve items — twice.
And twice, Cord McCoy was heard saying, “I’m not going to give up until Phil tells us to leave.”
Even though the brothers from Tupelo arrived at the Leg 7 pit stop in last place, host Phil Keoghan did not ask them to leave. It was not an elimination leg. But they will have to perform an extra task during Leg 8.
The items that set them back were a coconut and a message in a bottle. Three other teams had to go back and get a coconut during the Ox  Trot Detour, so that wasn’t a big setback. But leaving the bottle on the boat during the Roadblock proved costly, as they dropped from fifth to sixth place.
But according to their comments at the end of the episode, they are ready for whatever the next leg brings.
“Champions aren’t necessarily the people who ride the most bulls,” Jet said. “They’re the people who can get bucked off and still pick themselves up and get on another one.
“That’s just what we do. And when you hit bottom, there’s only one place to go, and that’s up.”
Next up are stops in Malaysia (Leg Eight) and Singapore (Leg Nine).
Upcoming episodes, which are taken from quotes made by the racers, are titled “You’re Like Jason Bourne, Right?” and “Dumb Did Us In.”
Sounds like something Jet or Cord McCoy might’ve said, doesn’t it? To find out, tune in to CBS at 7 p.m. Sundays.

Oklahoman enjoys Week 10 on ‘The Biggest Loser’ — despite what the scale said

Daris George had a great week on “The Biggest Loser” — not on the scale, but during his seven days back home in Oklahoma.
All 10 of the remaining contenders on the show spent the week at home, and cameras captured Daris working out at a local gym, taking a date to a karaoke bar and riding an exercise bike 26.2 miles inside the Ardmore Middle School gym.
“I loved every minute of being home,” he said after the Week 10 weigh-in where he dropped four pounds. “I was a more confident person, and I was loving life.”
Daris didn’t even let his four-pound weight loss for the week get him down, even though that was the fewest pounds lost by anyone during Week 10.
He did not receive a vote in the elimination room, however, and is still in contention for the $250,000 grand prize and title of “The Biggest Loser.”

Oklahoma cowboys took unscheduled “Amazing Race” tour, but are still contenders

Oklahoma cowboys Jet and Cord McCoy started out Leg 6 of “The Amazing Race” in third place. They even reached the first challenge in second place.
But then they got lost — twice — and fell to fifth place going into the Roadblock (rappeling into a winery) and to sixth place going into the Detour (searching a vineyard for a cluster of grapes).
“People pay thousands of dollars to get the tour we had today,” Cord said. “This was a scary day.”
The two brothers from Tupelo made up some ground in the grape vineyard, though, and arrived at the Pit Stop in fourth place.
Next up are stops in Seychelles (Leg 7) and Malaysia (Leg 8).
Upcoming episodes, which are taken from quotes made by the racers, are titled “Anonymous?” and “You’re Like Jason Bourne, Right?”

Daris doesn’t mind the battle scars from Week 9 of ‘The Biggest Loser’

   Daris George lost some skin
in “The Biggest Loser” gym on Tuesday’s episode (March 16). But he didn’t mind the scraped elbows one bit when he saw the results of his strenuous workout.
“Ten pounds,” he said after his Week 9 weigh-in. “It makes the hard work a little bit more worth it when you actually see two digits on that scale.”
That was just his third week of double-digit weight loss since arriving at the ranch weighing 346 pounds. But he’s had three 9-pound weight-loss weeks and dropped six and seven pounds during the other three weigh-ins.
So in nine weeks on the NBC show, the 25-year-old from Ardmore has dropped 98 pounds and is down to 248.

‘General Hospital’ has an Oklahoma touch

Mary Sue Price called The Oklahoman today (March 16). She was watching “General Hospital” and wanted to share her feelings about the episode.
“It’s an important storyline about a teenage girl getting hit by her boyfriend,” Price said. “It’s very believable. And the actress from Oklahoma who plays Kristina is doing some killer work.”
Lexi Ainsworth, who plays Kristina, was born at Oklahoma’s Mercy Hospital. So was Price, who is a writer on the show.
“I didn’t even know Lexi was from Oklahoma,” said Price, a Miami High School graduate and former entertainment editor at The Oklahoman. “But she is nailing the part, and it is hard stuff, too.”
For those who missed Tuesday’s episode (2 p.m. on ABC), it can be viewed at 9 p.m. on SoapNet (170 on Cox Digital Cable, 188 on Dish Network, 262 on DirecTV, 365 on U-verse) or at any time on www.ABC.com.
“It’s an important story, and I think we’re doing a good job with it,” said Price, who has been on the show’s writing staff since 1987 and has two Emmys to show for her work. “We’re even doing some (public service announcements) around it.”

McCoy brothers from Oklahoma still contenders on ‘The Amazing Race’

Oklahoma cowboys Jet and Cord McCoy moved up one spot to third place after  Leg 5 of “The Amazing Race” (March 14 on CBS).
The leg’s final challenge had them trade in their cowboy hats and boots for poofy hats and fake moustaches. And in the tradition of the first Tour de France, they rode antique bicycles to the Pit Stop.
“That’s why I like horses better than bikes,” Jet said. “I don’t have to peddle horses.”
Next up are stops in Paris (Leg 6), Seychelles (Leg 7) and Malaysia (Leg 8).
Upcoming episodes, which are taken from quotes made by the racers, are titled “Cathy Drone?” and “Anonymous?”

Oklahoma’s ‘Biggest Loser’ mom needs a new wardrobe

Cheryl George of Ardmore is planning a spring shopping spree.
She has changed dress sizes three times since stepping on “The Biggest Loser” ranch last September. And she hopes to reach her goal weight by the show’s season finale in May.
In the meantime, she is making due with clothes she picks up at discount stores. She was shown at the end of Tuesday’s episode (March 9) bagging up her big clothes and donating them to a local church.
“That was a big thing for me to get rid of those clothes,” Cheryl said in an NBC conference call after being voted off the show on Week 8.
“First of all, I can’t believe I used to wear those clothes. And I can’t imagine the thought of ever going back to that.”
Cheryl started “The Biggest Loser” at 227 pounds and was down to 182 after eight weeks. She has been exercising and eating right at home since then and is now at 164 pounds with a goal of reaching 135 by the show’s season finale.
“When I have finally come to my maintenance weight, I will definitely treat myself to a shopping spree,” Cheryl said. “Clothes and how I look are important to me.”
So where does she plan to shop?
“I’ve never been to Macy’s, so I’d like to go there. I don’t even know what kind of store it is, to tell you the truth.
“And there is a local store in town called Stephanie’s Boutique. The first time I went into that store, I was new in town and I was overweight. And they told me they didn’t have anything that would fit me.
“I’d like to go in there and purchase an outfit or two.”

Ardmore mom gained a lot from ‘The Biggest Loser’

   Know what Cheryl George of
Ardmore lost during her eight weeks on “The Biggest Loser”? A total of 45 pounds.
Know what she gained during her time on NBC’s weight-loss competition show?
“I have gained a great big family that is going to take me through a lifetime,” she said after being ousted from the show on Tuesday (March 9).
“What I’ve learned since I’ve been here is that I am a heck of a lot stronger than I thought I was. I can definitely do things beyond what I ever dreamed I can do.”
On Tuesday’s episode, she got behind a bar and helped pull a semi truck. In earlier episodes, she completed a bike challenge, took part in a biathlon challenge and held an Olympic-style torch on her head to win an elimination challenge.
And at the end of Tuesday’s episode, she was shown working out back home in Ardmore. She was down to 164 pounds and has a goal to be at 135 pounds by the show’s live finale in  May.
Cheryl’s son, Daris, is still a contender on “The Biggest Loser.” He dropped nine pounds during Week 8, in which everybody put in 40 hours of work at the Los Angeles food bank.
“I’m so happy, because I did this working all week long,” he said of his 9-pound weight loss. “Anyone can do it. Just eat right and work out.”

Oklahoma cowboy on ‘The Amazing Race’ is quotable

Jet McCoy says the darndest things on “The Amazing Race.”
Last week, his quote of “Run like scalded dogs” was used for the episode’s title. On Sunday’s episode (March 7 on CBS), his words were again selected as the show’s title.
When he and his brother Cord were making their way to the Leg 4 pit stop through Hamburg, Germany’s red-light district, Jet uttered the title phrase: “We are no longer in the Bible Belt.”
He also said something cute after completing a Roadblock challenge, in which he did a tandem bungee jump over the Port of Hamburg. The bungee crane operator asked him to take his cowboy hat off, but he didn’t want to.
“I just proved to the world that you can bungee jump with a cowboy hat on,” he said.
The McCoy brothers from Tupelo are still contenders on “The Amazing Race,” although they did slip from first to fourth. The challenges set them back a bit, as neither had ever set foot on a soccer field before (they had to kick the ball through five targets) and Cord had never had a beer in his whole life (they had to drink a boot of beer).
Next up are stops in France (Leg 5 and 6) and Seychelles (future leg).
And next week’s episode is titled “I Think We’re Fighting the Germans, Right?”
Sounds like something Jet or Cord McCoy might’ve said, doesn’t it? To find out, tune in to CBS at 7 p.m. Sundays.
