“Oklahoma Forum”: Capitol Reporters Roundtable to be featured May 13


On this week’s edition of OETA’s “Oklahoma Forum,” airing at 12:30 p.m. Sunday May 13, the latest news from the Oklahoma legislative session  will be discussed with state capitol reporters, according to a news release.

Pearl Carter Scott documentary airs on OETA tonight

“Pearl Carter Scott: On Top of the World,” a documentary designed to complement the award-winning film “Pearl,” airs at 7:30 tonight on OETA.

The documentary shares the life story of aviatrix Pearl Carter Scott, but focuses on more than her flying career, according to a news release.

“Pearl Carter Scott: On Top of the World” features an interview with Pearl and her family members.

“Pearl is a legendary figure in the history of Oklahoma, the world of aviation and in the Chickasaw Nation,” Chickasaw Nation Gov. Bill Anoatubby said in the news release. “She was a dynamic, determined and caring individual who exemplifies many of the finest qualities of Chickasaw people. She was a unique individual who had a profoundly positive impact on everyone she met.”

“Pearl contributed significantly to our tribe during its political and cultural resurgence. Bringing her life story to millions of OETA viewers will help preserve that impact for generations to come.”

OETA will also air the movie “Pearl” at 11 p.m., Friday, June 17 on “The OETA Movie Club.”

“Pearl” centers on the teen years of the late Eula “Pearl” Carter Scott, a Chickasaw who earned her pilot’s license at the age of 13 in 1928, and by the age of 14, she was flying her father to business appointments and wowing air show audiences with her aerobatic maneuvers all over Oklahoma.

“Pearl” was awarded four “Doves” by the Dove Foundation, which endorsed the film as family-approved for all ages.

The movie was shot at various locations in Oklahoma, including the Harn Homestead, the El Reno Municipal Airport, the Jude and Jody Airport and several locations in and around Guthrie.

“Roll Call” added to OETA’s Sunday schedule

“Roll Call” has been added to OETA’s Sunday local talk show lineup.

John McCarroll hosts the program, which airs at 1:30 p.m., and features three state legislators discussing their district in each episode, according to a news release.

The legislators on this week’s (Dec. 18) show are Sen. Clark Jolley, R-District 41/Edmond; Rep. Jeff Hickman, R-District 58/Woodward; and Rep. Wade Rousselot, R-District 12/Wagoner.

2011 top stories and personalities to be discussed on Sunday’s Oklahoma Forum

This week’s “Oklahoma Forum,” airing at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18 on OETA, will be featuring a discussion of the top stories and personalities of 2011 and some fearless predictions for 2012 will be made as well, according to a news release.

The list of panelists on the year-end show is as follows:

- Ron Williams, co-host of the “Jack and Ron Show” on KISS-FM Radio

Oklahoma bootmaker to be featured on PBS’ “Craft in America: Family” Monday

Oklahoma custom bootmaker Lisa Sorrell and her family will be in the spotlight in a new episode of the Peabody Award-winning PBS show, “Craft in America: Family,” airing at 9 p.m. Monday, Oct 17 on OETA.

The “Craft in America” series explores America’s creative spirit through the languages and traditions of the handmade object as it takes viewers to discrete corners of America through stories of humble materials carefully crafted into works of art, and the artists who create them, according to a news release.


“Not As I Pictured” to air Sept. 19 on OETA

Oklahoma City PBS affiliate OETA and its sub-channel Oklahoma Channel are set to broadcast Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist John Kaplan’s story of cancer survival “Not As I Pictured.”

The documentary will air at 9 p.m. Sept. 19 on OETA and at 5 p.m. Sept. 25 on Oklahoma Channel, according to a news release.

Kaplan, who was diagnosed at the age of 48 with a potentially deadly form of lymphoma, chronicled his experience in the film.

Musicians who were moved by the content of “Not As I Pictured” such as Michael Stipe, Chris Martin, David Bowie, will.i.am, Justin Timberlake, Pantera and Cowboy Junkies donated music for the film’s soundtrack.


James Marsden among guests on upcoming season of “Sesame Street”

Season 42 of PBS Kids’ “Sesame Street” premieres at 9 a.m. Sept. 26 on OETA and Oklahoma City’s James Marsden is among the season’s featured guests, which include Nicole Kidman, Mila Kunis, Amy Adams and Conan O’Brien.

This season of “Sesame Street” is set to focus on the STEM curriculum  (science, technology, engineering and math) to help encourage school readiness, particularly in the disciplines of science and math, according to a news release.

Other highlights will include original songs and street stories; a brand new segment “Murray’s Science Experiments;” new “Super Grover 2.0″ stories, as well as new “Abby’s Flying Fairy School” animations.

More celebrities scheduled to appear on “Sesame Street” during the new season include Naomi Watts, Mark Ruffalo, Liev Schreiber, Robin Williams, Sofia Vergera, Emma Stone, Seth Rogen, Andy Samberg, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Juanes, Elvis Costello, Bruno Mars, Craig Ferguson, Drew Brees, Carmelo Anthony and John Krasinski.


“Oklahoma Forum” to feature discussion on journalistic ethics and the British phone hacking scandal

OETA’s  “Oklahoma Forum” is slated to cover journalistic ethics and the British phone hacking scandal in this week’s installment of the show, which will air at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a news release.

Panelists analyzing the British phone hacking scandal enveloping Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. and its impact on the American newspaper industry are:

- Kelly Dyer Fry, Editor of The Oklahoman and Vice President of News for OPUBCO Communications Group

- Joe Worley, Executive Editor of the Tulsa World

- Charles Self, PhD, Director of the Institute for Research and Training at the University of Oklahoma Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication

“Pearl” to premiere on OETA Saturday

The family-friendly film “Pearl,” based on the exceptional teen years of the late Eula “Pearl” Carter Scott, will be having its Oklahoma television premiere at 8 p.m. Saturday on the OETA Movie Club hosted by B.J. Wexler.

“Pearl” tells the story of the Chickasaw woman who earned her pilot’s license at the age of 13 in 1928, and by the age of 14, she was flying her father to business appointments and performing in air shows.

The movie, which has won four Dove Foundation awards, was produced by the Chickasaw Nation and filmed at various locations in Oklahoma, including the Harn Homestead, the El Reno Regional Airport, the Jude and Jody Airport and several locations in and around Guthrie, according to a news release.

Chickasaw cast members include:

- Paden Brown, a Byng High School junior who plays Arnetta, Pearl’s little sister

- Pauline Brown, Chickasaw elder and culture preservationist who plays Widow Harjo

- Paulina Gee, three-year-old daughter of Chickasaw Nation Deputy Attorney General Debra Gee who plays Louise, Pearl’s oldest daughter

Other Chickasaws with speaking roles in “Pearl” include: Micah Hart as “Older Georgie,” former Chickasaw Princess Jaisen Monetatchi as “Chickasaw Bride” and Dakota Brown as “Chickasaw Friend.”

The film featured dozens of Chickasaw citizens, Chickasaw Nation employees and community members as extras.
