Belt buckles don’t slow Oklahoma cowboys down on ‘Amazing Race’
When Jet and Cord
McCoy arrived at the Leg 3 finish line in first place on “The Amazing Race” (Feb. 28 on CBS), host Phil Keoghan had a question for the Oklahoma cowboys.
“Don’t those belt buckles slow you down?” Keoghan asked.
“We’d be slower if our pants were around our ankles,” Jet said.
Jet also delivered the line that was used for the episode’s title. He said “Thing is, we don’t have to run like scalded dogs,” before hopping on a bus to Argentina.”
The McCoy brothers from Tupelo did fall behind a bit during this leg of the race. One time was on purpose so the other teams wouldn’t follow them to el Boliche Viejo, an old saloon where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid hid out in Argentina. The other time was when they needed three hands to beat a Gnome at five-card stud.
But they regained the lead at the Road Block where one team member had to rope a steer-horned hay bale target 18-feet away.
“I can’t believe I missed it on the first try,” Jet said. “I’m going to hear about that.”
And they extended their lead by hitting a ball and hauling a wooden practice horse down a polo field.
As winners of the third leg of the race, the McCoy brothers won a trip for two to Patagonia.
Next up are stops in Germany (Leg 4) and France (Leg 5).
Upcoming episodes, which are taken from quotes made by the racers, are titled “We Are No Longer in the Bible Belt” and “I Think We’re Fighting the Germans, Right?”
Sounds like something Jet or Cord McCoy might’ve said, doesn’t it? To find out, tune in to CBS at 7 p.m. Sundays.

‘The Biggest Loser’ Danny Cahill receives surprise from ‘The Doctors’

Oklahoma native Danny Cahill dropped 239 pounds to win Season 8 of “The Biggest Loser.”
Now “The Doctors” are going to help him take off another 15 to 20 pounds.
Danny, who grew up in Midwest City and now lives in Broken Arrow, heard the good news during a guest appearance on the syndicated talk show. The episode in which he talks about how profoundly things have changed for him will air at 3 p.m. Friday (Feb. 5) on KWTV-9 in Oklahoma City.
“People ask me all the time, ‘What did you do with all that skin?’ ” Danny said on the show. “I didn’t do anything with it. It’s still there.”
Danny, who went from 430 to 191 pounds, even lifted his shirt to reveal the extra skin around his waist, stomach and breast areas. The doctors addressed the fact that people who lose a severe amount of weight are typically left with an excessive amount of loose skin.
And that’s when Dr. Drew Ordon, a reconstructive surgery expert, announced that “The Doctors” want to arrange for Danny to have surgery to remove the excess skin, which amounts to about 15 to 20 pounds.
“The Doctors” also plans to follow Danny as he begins this new chapter in his life.
“Losing all the weight was a weight lifted off my soul,” Danny said on the show. “I’m able to pursue my passions again and try to get people motivated to do what I did, to wake up.”

ABC cancels “Ugly Betty”

The cast of "Ugly Betty" - ABC Photo
Although the character of “Ugly Betty” overcame a lot of obstacles, the show itself couldn’t overcome the obstacles of shifting time slots and low ratings.
According to an Associated Press report, ABC is cancelling “Ugly Betty,” but ABC promises that a proper series finale will be written.
I had hoped its new Wednesday night time slot would help the ratings, but I guess it wasn’t enough help for ABC, though they only aired a few episodes at this new time.
My first thought for the finale is that I hope Betty will end up happily ever after with former love Henry, but maybe she should end up happily ever after on her own, because that’s one of the best messages this show has promoted – being strong and independent, and that your self-worth is not based on whether you have a significant other or not.
Please don’t end with Betty and Daniel together! Their relationship is perfect the way it is.
Sorry to hear you’ll be going “Ugly Betty,” but thanks for always being entertaining and inspiring.
