The picture released by TIGHAR this past week does appear to show manmade debris, presumably at depth on the slopes descendig from the outer reef boundary near the wreckage of the Norwich City ship wreck. It is interesting to note that because of the problematic reef permanent anchorage points were installed on Nikumaroro. I am an untrained in analyzing grainy photos but the debris could either be a sunken buoy or a portion of an engine nacele with a part of the landing gear yoke still attached. The items visible to the right appear to be either a battery box, or portion of a black fuel tank. The round bits shown might be nothing more than a cast piece of metal or perhaps the coral encrusted remanants of a WASP jr motor broken in two pieces. I hope that James Cameron and his deep sea diving rig will pay a visit and take a look and help TIGHAR answer the question; is it junk from the Norwich City, junk from the US occupation of the island up to the early sixties, or perhaps bits of Amelia Earharts Lockheed Electra 10A.
