Can you imagine what would have happened if they DID try to film in Kentucky or West Virginia with that cast? They wouldn’t be able to film a scene without some local running out from behind a tree or hounding them for autographs or photos. I’m not at all surprised they filmed outside the US – they had a schedule to keep.

One could tell that it wasn’t filmed in Wv or Ky be cause there isn’t that much level ground anywhere in Pike Co. Ky or Mingo Co. Wv…I live 15 minutes from the actual location….

I was hooked on this series…though I too wish it had been filmed in the U.S. This story has always facinated me. I can’t seem to get enough of it!

It is MUCH cheaper to produce in Romania, especially with building a western town. US commercials are often produced anywhere from New Zealand to Spain…the crews are cheap, the talent gets paid for a day of work with no expensive residuals.

Was the hatfeids and mccoys on the history Chanel filmed at a different film speed? I couldn’t watch it, it made me dizzy or something can,t explain it. Did anyone else comment about this or did it just do it to me? My husband said he couldn’t tell what I was talking about, but that’s not unusual!!! Lol

Loved the fine acting and beauty of this awesome period drama. Kevin Costner brought Devil Anse powerfully alive. Matt Barr’s sensitive and tender interpretation of his character Johnse Hatfield’s boyish sensuality and vulnerability was truly inspired. Matt truly stole the show and I know this will catapult him to great heights in the film industry. Congratulations Matt!

I watched every night and hated to see the movie come to an end. I have read several books on the fued and enjoyed the story line of the movie. I live in Pikeville and I knew the first night it was not filmed in KY & WV. Our hills are too steep & our valley’s are not that wide. I also realize Perry Cline kept the fued going. One of the best miniseries ever!

I saw Part one but then could not watch the rest because my daughter had her baby when part 2 was on. I am now watching it on demand and I love it. Matt Barr is wonderful and so is Kevin Costner. Matt should make it big, he’s young, good looking and can act. I think he will go far. Kevin Costner is fantastic and just excels in everything he does. I love this mini series and it should be nominated for some ememy awards for sure. 3MV5

Loved him as Johnse Hatfield. People need to start talking about him for the role of Christian Grey, Fifty Shades. He would be a much better fit than any of the other more well known actors being tossed around. The fans of Fifty Shades want a new fresh face. Matt Barr is the perfect age, has the look, and frame. He also has the perfect air about him to play Christian. I hope he has a great agent and manager who can make this happen for him. Its the perfect time for him to do something completely different than Johnse Hatfield and it could really make him sore.

Hatfield & McCoy was very good. I think it was good that they filmed it in Romania because it really looked like the 1800′s. Matt Barr was truly amazing! I defiantly agree with Costner about Matt. He is very handsome and he is a great actor. I hope to be like him one day!

I truly enjoyed the series and even noticed the reference to Bluefield, West Virginia on the second night of the mini series. But seeing as how I am from West Virginia; hearing that the mini series was filmed in Romania instead of WV and Kentucky is slightly upsetting; mainly because it would’ve been more realistic to have filmed in WV or KY.

We loved the series!! Hated to see it come to an end!! Matt was absolutely wonderful for the part of Johnse, and it was great seeing Kevin Costner and Mare Winningham in action once again, it had been awhile… gonna purchase it for sure. :]

What a great historical story to have told by a master film maker such as Kevin Costner.
The cast was great…character development took its time to do it right, and costuming superb.
What a great thing to finally see the return of the 3 day mini-series genre again!
The only thing missing is the genuine setting of KY and WVA.
