Gabrielle Union to guest star on Lifetime’s “Army Wives”

Gabrielle Union (“FlashForward”) will be a guest star on an episode of “Army Wives,” airing Aug. 15 at 9 p.m. on Lifetime.

In this show, Pamela (Brigid Brannagh) and her partner Clayton Boone (Lee Tergesen) happen upon a murder in Charleston, according to a news release.

This brings Atlanta police detective Gina Maddox (Union) to town to clear the prime suspect’s name and take her home to testify as a key witness for a case Maddox has been working.

“Army Wives” follows the lives of a diverse group of women (and one man) who live with their spouses and families on an active army post.

The series, in its fourth season, is filmed in Charleston, South Carolina and its stars include Brannagh, Kim Delaney, Sally Pressman, Brian McNamara and Catherine Bell.


Four companies participating in the second season of “Undercover Boss” announced

CBS logoCBS’ “Undercover Boss,” which is nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Reality Program, has unveiled four of the companies and their leaders taking part in its second season:

NASCAR (Steve Phelps, Senior Vice President and CMO)
DirecTV (Mike White, Chairman, President and CEO)
Chiquita Brands International, Inc. (Fernando Aguirre, Chairman and CEO)
Great Wolf Resorts (Kimberly K. Schaefer, CEO)

Air schedule and more companies will be revealed at a later date, according to a news release.

“Undercover Boss” follows a different executive each week as they go undercover to work alongside their employees to get an inside look at what’s going well and what needs to be improved in their company.

Along the way, they also usually discover some unsung heroes who are major contributors in making their company run.

The second season of “Undercover Boss” premieres in a special time period Sunday, Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. before moving to its regular time slot at 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3. on CBS.


William Baldwin to guest star on “Parenthood”

William Baldwin will join the cast of NBC’s “Parenthood” for a multiple-episode arc this fall.

Baldwin will play Gordon Flint, Adam’s (Peter Krause) wealthy, charismatic boss, according to a news release.

Flint is content with letting Adam do the heavy lifting of running the company while preferring to spend his time thinking about the “big picture.”

Flint’s also a dedicated bachelor and brings tension to the Braverman family when he sets his sights on Adam’s sister, Sarah (Lauren Graham).

Baldwin has appeared in movies including “Backdraft, “The Squid & The Whale,” and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and recently starred on television in “Dirty Sexy Money” and had a recurring role on last season’s “Gossip Girl.”

“Parenthood” is a drama about the colorful Braverman clan and its stars include Craig T. Nelson, Monica Potter Erika Christensen and Dax Shepard, as well as Krause and Graham.

The second season of “Parenthood” premieres Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. on NBC.


“90210″ stars Luke Perry and Jason Priestley to make Hallmark Movie Channel’s “Goodnight for Justice”

“Beverly Hills, 90210″ stars Luke Perry and Jason Priestley get together again for  the Hallmark Movie Channel film “Goodnight For Justice,” which is set to premiere in 2011.

Perry is an executive producer and the lead star of the movie about a boy in the American Old West who witnesses an act of murderous violence that takes the lives of his parents and a prominent public official, according to a news release.

Affected by the memory of the slain official’s grandeur and eloquence, the boy grows up to become a circuit judge dead set on justice.

Priestley will direct the movie, which is based on material developed by Perry, and will go into production Aug. 4 in Vancouver, B.C.

Chord Overstreet joins “Glee” cast

Chord Overstreet, a newcomer who has appeared on “iCarly”, joins the cast of Fox’s “Glee,” beginning with its second season premiere episode.

Overstreet will have a recurring role as Sam, a high school athlete who starts out as Finn’s protégé, but turns into his competition, according to a news release.

Overstreet will be joining John Stamos (“ER”) and singer Charice, who have been previously announced as guest stars.

Charice will portray an exchange student at McKinley High School who becomes a fierce rival to one of the glee club’s stars; and Stamos will play a dentist and potential love interest for guidance counselor Emma (Jayma Mays).

The second season premiere of “Glee” airs Sept. 21 at 7 p.m on Fox.


CBS approves of “CHAOS”

“CHAOS,” a comedy-drama starring Freddy Rodriguez (“Ugly Betty”) and Tulsa native Tim Blake Nelson (“O Brother, Where Art Thou?”), has been picked up by CBS for mid-season.

Eric Close (“Without a Trace”), James Murray (“Primeval”) and Carmen Ejogo (“Kidnapped”) are also co-stars.

“CHAOS” involves a group of rogue CIA spies in the Office of Disruptive Services (ODS), who battle threats to national security amidst bureaucratic gridlock, incompetence and political infighting, according to a news release.


AMC’s new drama “Rubicon” full of complicity

In AMC’s new conspiracy series “Rubicon,” we are introduced to the American Policy Institute (API), which is a federal intelligence agency based in New York City.

The lead character Will Travers, played by James Badge Dale (“The Pacific”) is an astute and beleaguered API analyst.

Travers is challenged after a tragic event forces him to make a decision about whether to quit the agency or continue on and try to find out the truth behind this tragedy, even after being previously warned it was a good time to get out.

Dale is absorbing as Travers and draws you in to sympathize with his character’s plight.

Other cast members include Miranda Richardson (“Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”), Jessica Collins (“The Nine”), Dallas Roberts (“The L Word”) and Arliss Howard (“Medium”).

If you like political suspense or want to watch something a little different, tune in to “Rubicon,” which has a special two-hour premiere August 1 at 7 p.m. on AMC.

After its debut, “Rubicon” will air Sundays at 8 p.m. on AMC.

“Dexter” Season 5 trailer premieres at Comic-Con

“Dexter” stars Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter and James Remar, along with the show’s producers, discussed the series upcoming fifth season at Comic-Con at the San Diego Convention Center on Thursday, July 22.

In addition to this one-hour panel session, Showtime debuted an exclusive trailer featuring scenes from “Dexter’s” Season 5, according to a news release.

Syfy lands “Lost” director/executive producer for “Alphas” pilot

Syfy logoJack Bender has signed on as director/executive producer for the Syfy action-adventure 90-minute pilot “Alphas.”

Bender just finished six seasons as an executive producer and director on ABC’s “Lost.”

The story line for “Alphas” involves a team of ordinary citizens who possess extraordinary and unusual mental skills.

Using physical feats and their unique mental abilities, the team takes the law into their own hands and uncovers what the CIA, FBI and Pentagon have not been able or willing to solve, according to a news release.

These gifted people have to balance their quirky personalities and diverse backgrounds with their not always visible powers as they work to solve crimes.

Bender has also directed “The Sopranos,”  “Carnivale,” “Alias” and “Boston Public.”


CBS reveals fall premiere dates

CBS’ new and returning series will debut the week of Sept. 20, the network announced today in a news release, with a few exceptions.

The exceptions are “Survivor: Nicaragua,” which will premiere a week earlier, and “The Good Wife” and “CSI: Miami,” which will begin a week later.

“Survivor: Nicaragua” starts its 21st edition in a new time period on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
