DIY Network searching for America’s Most Desperate Landscape; Winner gets a yard makeover and TV special

Have a yard that could use a makeover?
DIY Network has kicked off its third annual search for America’s Most Desperate Landscape. And the winner will get a major yard makeover and a starring role in a DIY special.
To be considered, go to www.DIYnetwork.com and download photos and videos or your lackluster lawn. Submissions will be accepted until May 3.
On May 18, four finalists selected by DIY Network will appear live on NBC’s “Today” show and compete head-to-head in landscape-related challenges.
To the winner goes a $25,000 landscape makeover, courtesy of DIY’s “Desperate Landscapes” host Jason Cameron and his crew.
And on June 8, DIY will premiere the “America’s Most Desperate Landscape” special documenting the search and build.
Even if your yard isn’t deemed as the most desperate one around, homeowners can pick up some good tips on “Desperate Landscapes,” which begins its sixth season April 7.

Jason, HELP!!!!!!
our builder bugged out leaving us with a slope of approximately 30 degrees, no topsoil, just red clay and stone not to mention the drainage was not installed properly. we have drain pipes above ground and coiled. the errosion that is occuring is sickening.
the landscaping that was installed was planted in red clay and stone, so even what was done is dying.
we are busy trying to complete what was not done on the inside, tubs installed and functioning, flooring has to be redone. windows corrected just to name a few.
we are out of money, time, and energy plus our youngest daughter is planning a wedding.
HELP! HELP! HELP!

His whole yard is just a bumpy bunch of weeds and dirt, which he not too occasionally, mows. Can you help him? We can get some pictures to you if needed. Thanks.

Dear Jason,
Please help my husband out. He has been through so much this last year and deserves more than I can give him. We have been saving to landscape our yard but had to use most of our savings to put his dad in a nursing home for about a year and a half. When we thought it couldn’t get much worse, he got laid off of work so the yard still looks horrible but he is trying his best. We pray and know that things will work out some how though. If you could just help a little, it would bring his spirits up. Thank You
Dear Jason,
I have worked so hard being a nurse and taking care of other people, after the hustle and bustle of working in the medical field for over 10 years, and working a bunch of 12, sometimes 13 hour shifts, I need a santuary to come home to, please help me achieve this goal, sometimes I need some one to take care of me.
Thanks,
Desperate Nurse Kim

Desperate landscape! How about disaster landscape!Living in the arizona desert means having no landscape. the ground is like concrete, there is no water, almost nothing will grow but scrub brush and cactus. I am from the garden state of New Jersey and so at my wits end where to even go with it. If DIY can do something with this then they have suceeded in completeing a major challenge.
Dear Jason,
We are in desperate need of your help. Have fully enjoyed your work and watching you help others. My husband went and bought my old family home of 128 years old and we have been remoldeling the inside to bring up to code and more liveable. We have some very old Live Oak trees in the yard and just have no clue what to do and still try to keep the old time charm. The yard is a mess and the outside of the house is also in dire need. We just don’t know what to do at this point. Please help!!!!!!!New Smyrna Beach,Florida
We have trees, dead grass, srubs, sun, wild life bird feeders, but need something for ourselves. A make over would be a blessing.

Our yard is extremely rocky & has steep slopes. The whole yard has to be mowed with a pushmower. and part of the back still needs cleared & I have to use a weedwhacker on the part that has been cleared. I am 67 & my husband is unable to help much due to health. We retired to this location 5 years ago, it is almost an acre that we purchased in the 70′s. I need someway that I can take care of it that is not so painful or lengthy. I love the outdoors & am very proud of what I can do to make it look good for others driving by, help!
dear jason,
I am a Staff Seargent in the US Army currently stationed in iraq. I have a back yard from h***. My back yard is a muddy mess when it rains. I built a 16ft x 35ft
deck in my back yard to cover up most of the mud, but it still needs desperate help. Being deployed has put a damper on doing anything around my house. My wife has been so supportive of my military career. Being that this is my second deployment and she is has to take care of 3 children now i would love to do this for her. I don’t know a better way to show her my appreciation than to get rid of the eye sore in our back yard. My wife has been wanting this for a long time and we just haven’t had the money so any help would greatly be appreciated.
From the other side of the world i say thanks.

My yard is on a slope. The soil is clay and rock. The sidewalk is crumbling. The trees are overgrown and the dandelions are taking over. The railroad ties in the driveway are rotting away and the ruts are killing my shocks. I’m a 52 year old school teacher with rheumatoid arthritis…but don’t feel sorry for me…at least not until you see my yard!! Then you will be in tears. :..(. Please help a girl out!!

Hey thanks a lot for that post! I really like your website, could you tell me where you got your template design? Are you using wordpress? Would be cool if you could contact me!
I would love to surprise my husband with his dream back yard. He is an awesome pastor and has helped so many people through distressing times. He loves ponds (and we have a teeny-tiny ugly one). He loves fountains (and ours is crumbling apart). We are hard workers and have lots of friends and family who would volunteer as well. I have taken pictures if you’re interested. Oh, my gosh! It would be so surreal. Happy 4th!
A year ago I sent numerous photos of our yard to you. We built our home three years ago and the landscaping around our house was never completed. Piles of dirt now showcase ragweed. Retaining walls have never been put up and I am tired of looking at dirt piles. Our yard is so bad we are ashamed to have anyone come over. My husband is extremely busy with his job (which is a 24/7 job) taking care of livestock. He is exhaused when he comes home and does not have time or energy to finish this huge project. If we had the equipment to move the dirt and build the retaining walls I would attempt to try doing it myself. We are desperate for help, no relatives close by to help. Please consider this as a project you would want to attempt. Help, this is definitely a desperate landscape!!!!

I do all ‘landscaping’ right now, but withour a job there’s not much I can do except cut the grass. If ever you’re in Indianapolis, IN come look us up.
Thanks man…you’re tops…Karen

Desperately seeking Jason- Hi Jason. My boyfriend, Roy, and I love to watch your show. Our front yard looks like an asteroid dropped in it. Due to heavy rain, we ended up with a huge sinkhole in the front yard. We attempted to resolve the sinkhole problem by hiring a contractor five months ago. After paying the contractor over 65% of the money upfront, he broke ground, delivered mounds and mounds of red dirt and boulders along with drain pipes and disappeared. Please help…
If you have the time to direct me to one of your shows that did a backyard makeover that was wheelchair accessible, I would greatly appreciate it. My roommate is unable to exit the home independently as the ramp to the back yard begins its descent at the door on the back. I just wanted to get some ideas on decks, ramps, what to do with slopes, yada yada. I am not looking for a handout just some cool ideas.
Thanks for your time, I know that you guys are busy. : )
