SYTYCD: Nigel vs. Nathan

nathan_mg_0968_lyf

OK, now this could be me, but does it seem that Nigel Lythgoe, the executive producer of “So You Think You Can Dance” is being tough on top 10 dancer Nathan Trasoras? After both dances — the Broadway and the Rhumba — Nigel didn’t seem to provide uplifting commentary, as he does for other dancers. Instead, he was cold and critical. Not that I don’t agree with the technical advice, but it’s clear that Nathan no longer is his pet project.

Instead of technical correction, someone needs to give that boy some tips on presentation. His face is a tragic playground: happy, angry, sad.

Standouts from Tuesday night: Jakob and Ellenore — the new dream team! — Russell and Mollee (though I’m no Mollee fan) and Ryan and Noelle. Tonight, one boy and one girl are eliminated. We’ll dish on the podcast Thursday. Tune in tomorrow!

Nigel has it out for Nathan, for sure. They give him the worst styles. He is a great contemporary dancer. I have seen him perform many times. But I do agree, his faces aren’t helping him much.

Nathan is scrambling to stay in the top 10. He came into SYTYCD sort of clueless as to how to win fans and votes. He is an amazing dancer and I totally understand why Nigel tried to light a fire under him, but Nigel can not bring out the emotion that Nathan has yet to experience. After this show I bet he will have some!

He is actually my favorite and I just wish he had been given a better partner than Mollee and some better dances….and if wishes were horses……………

Nathan was the best dancer this season, after his elimination I want to boycott the show, I really wanted
to see the results actually how many votes did he get V/S ryan. I think Nathan’s elimination was turned into personal issue and the decision was made by Mr. Nigel L. This was not business….

Uh, Nigel didn’t make the decision to cut NAthan, the viewers did. He is a good dancer, just young and under-performed (by that I mean he has no stage presence developed) he is technically very good but that is only one fraction of a performer. Ryan, though not the “fan favorite” presents himself in an adult-like and gracious manner and isn’t afraid of the camera. SYTYCD is looking for someone who can be endearing to a crowd and win votes not only with thier dancing but with a winning personality as well. Nathan is just to self-centered and young to accept the gravity of the situation he is in as a “top 10″ dancer or performer at large. It’s all about stage presence and how you emote and absorb the character into your dancing. He was unsuccessful.

[...] won’t say I told you so (see here) but Nathan Trasoras and Noelle Marsh were sent home Wednesday [...]

about the whole pet project thing, i think nigel just liked nathan so much and had such high expectations for him and when nathan didn’t live up to them, nigel was highly disappointed time and time again. i really liked Nathan, in fact i reeeally wanted to see him in the finale along with ellenore, jakob and mollee (if she continues to mature) but you have to admit, if he wasn’t doing contemporary, he wasn’t doing all that well /:

I live in Lancaster Pa not to far from where this tragedy happened. When I first heard there was going to be a movie made, I was quite upset.

“Should that mix be 50% or 60%? We should always remain fundamentally a meritocracy,” he said. “That’s been a great strength of American 2targets.”
