Nickelodeon takes action for its annual Worldwide Day of Play
Nickelodeon is shutting its TV channels and websites down on Saturday, Sept. 26. Just for a few hours, but all for a good cause.
It’s the network’s way of encouraging youngsters to get up, be active and embrace a healthy lifetyle. And it’s turned into a yearly event.
In honor of the sixth annual Worldwide Day of Play (WWDP), Nickelodeon, Nicktoons, Noggin and The N will go off the air and Nick.com, Noggin.com, Nicktoonsnetwork.com and The-N.com will go offline from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 26.
For those looking for something to do, check with local Boys & Girls Clubs of America chapters. Quite a few are planning play events on and leading up to Sept. 26.
Or hold your own event. Nickelodeon has tips and ideas — and even a playbook — for those wanting to plan activities in their neighborhood. Go to www.worldwidedayofplay.com for details.
When Nickelodeon is “turned on” again by the cast of “True Jackson, VP,” the health and wellness messages will continue. The network takes pride in the fact that more than 1 million kids have pledged to get healthy since Worldwide Day of Play began.
