“Project Runway” hopeful hails from Tulsa
Miss last week’s Season 6
premiere of “Project Runway”? It can be viewed any day, any time at www.mylifetime.com.
But for the first look at episode 2, tune in to Lifetime Television at 9 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 27).
Shirin Askari, one of the 16 aspiring fashion designers competing for the $100,000 cash prize that comes with extras, was born in Tulsa.
The 24-year-old (pictured at right in Lifetime Photo) got her degree in fashion design at the University of North Texas and now lives in Richardson, Texas.
“I know that I may not have as much working experience as some of the other people on the show, but I know that for where I am in my career, I’ve excelled,” Askari said in her audition video, which can also be viewed at mylifetime.com. “I’ve won every competition I’ve ever entered. I have a drive, a dedication and I’m full of ideas.”
And she’s got a great sense of humor. Even though she was supposed to be on crutches when she taped her audition, she decided to hobble around instead.
“I didn’t think ‘cripple’ went with my outfit,” she said. “But it’s OK, I will be back to normal and off crutches in about a week. It has kept me fairly stationary for most of the summer, which gave me the opportunity to do what I love the most — design, sew, design and, well, sew.”
