‘Saving Grace’ summer finale is a wrap for Season 3
Last week, “Saving Grace” was days away from its summer finale. Now, however, Tuesday’s episode will mark the end of the show’s third season.
On Aug. 13, the show set in Oklahoma City and centered around police detective Grace Hanadarko (played by Oscar winner Holly Hunter) was cancelled by Fox Television Studios. So the show’s remaining six episodes for Season 3 that were being saved for winter 2009 will instead be saved for the final season’s run in summer 2010.
Three additional episodes have been ordered, however, so the show’s writers can tie up all loose ends. Oklahoma City native Nancy Miller, who created the show, will also have a say in how it concludes.
“Am I Gonna Die Today?” is the title of Tuesday’s finale, airing at 9 p.m. on TNT. When a prominent doctor and philanthropist fatally wounds an intruder in his house, the search is on for the intruder’s accomplice. But there’s something about the doctor’s story that just doesn’t gel with Grace.
If TNT had its way, Season 3 of “Saving Grace” would not have been cut short. For its current summer run, the show has averaged more than 3.5 million viewers and ranks first in its time period among viewers, households, adults 25-54 and women 25-54.
But it was the studio’s call, not the network’s.
“Since ‘Saving Grace’ began in 2007, the series has both challenged and entertained viewers in ways few other shows on television ever dare,” said Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “The show’s continued success is thanks to the amazing talents of Holly Hunter and Nancy Miller, along with a tremendous ensemble cast and a highly skilled production team. They have taken us on a unique journey, and we look forward to seeing where it will ultimately lead.”
