NBC scholarships available for funny women and comics of color

pit   Minorities with a sense of humor are eligible to apply for NBC Universal’s second annual diversity scholarship program.
Three up-and-coming comedians will be sponsored by NBC Universal and The People’s Impov Theater (The PIT) to study at The PIT’s year-long improvisational program in New York City.
All performers — particularly talented women and people of color with a strong desire to study improv — are eligible to apply. Candidates should submit an official Improv Scholarship application along with a five-minute DVD in which the candidate explains why he or she should be chosen and include a performance of an original comedic work. Send all materials to Katie Goan, Managing Director, The Peoples Improv Theater (The PIT), 154 W. 29th Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10001.
Submission packets must be received by Aug. 31. A live “Finalists Showcase” will be scheduled in the fall at The PIT, and the three 2009/2010 Diversity Scholars will be selected by both The PIT and NBC executives based on their performances at the end of the showcase.
This scholarship program was created by the NBC Talent Diversity Initiative to promote on-camera diversity through community involvement and development, showcasing non-traditional casting choices and creating programs to raise awareness at NBC Universal and within the entire entertainment community.  This initiative is part of NBC Universal’s ongoing commitment to diversity, both on and off camera.
