Mexico’s Muppets address swine flu problem

“Plaza Sésamo,” Mexico’s version of “Sesame Street,” is doing its part to educate youngsters about avoiding swine flu.
Last week, Mexican broadcaster Televisa began airing public service announcements produced by Sesame Workshop that feature the popular “Plaza Sesamo” Muppets Pancho and Lola.
The education and research team for “Plaza Sésamo” worked with Mexico’s Ministry of Health on developing the scripts which present the following important messages for staying healthy:
••Wash your hands with soap and clean water several times throughout the day for at least 20 seconds.
••Cover your mouth with a tissue or arm if you sneeze or cough. (And be sure to throw away the tissue and cover the trash can, too.)
••Tell a parent when you feel sick. And don’t go to school or outside where there are people who might catch your sickness.
Also appearing in the public service announcements are Mexican celebrities Lucero, Jorge Poza and Adrián Uribe, who donated their time to the cause.
