‘The Verdict’ is in-formative

Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett is happy to be a part of “The Verdict,” a locally-produced news show that airs new episodes at 9 a.m. Sundays on Cox-3 in Oklahoma City and Cox-7 in Tulsa.
He was also happy to help Kent Meyers get the show going eight years ago.
Meyers, who practices law full time at Crowe & Dunlevy in Oklahoma City, went to Cornett in 2000 to talk about his idea for an information show where hosts simply let guests give out information. Because of Cornett’s background in television (he was a sports anchor for KOCO-5 from 1981-96 and the station’s news anchor from 1996-98), he could explain how to start such a show.
The two taped a pilot in September 2000. The show debuted on April 1, 2001, and they have been co-hosting “The Verdict” ever since.
“The show has allowed me to meet with news makers on a weekly basis, and it’s been a great learning experience,” said Cornett, who was running a video production company when “The Verdict” started and has continued on as co-host even after being elected to the Oklahoma City Countil in 2001 and becoming Oklahoma City’s 35th mayor in 2004. “Hosting the show allows me to keep my on-air skills viable. That’s valuable in whatever I do, and those skills will go away if you don’t use them.”
Viewers who miss Sunday’s episodes can catch replays at 9:30 a.m. Monday, 10 a.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Wednesday. And anyone interested in catching a past episode can go to www.theverdict.tv for a complete list of show topics and request a copy for a small price.
“It’s fun to bring good information and good guests to citizens of Oklahoma City and Tulsa and hearing back from them that they like the show,” Meyers said. “If we are putting out good information, that makes it worth while.”
