Watch out ‘Gunsmoke,’ here come ‘The Simpsons’

Homer Simpson-Matt Dillon   “Gunsmoke,” which aired on CBS from 1955-75, is the longest-running scripted series to grace primetime airwaves in the history of television. But it won’t be next year.
   Fox has renewed “The Simpsons” for another two seasons. The animated family, which were introduced to viewers in short segments on “The Tracy Ullman Show,” made their sitcom debut on Dec. 17, 1989. This year marks the show’s 20th anniversary, and the network renewal will take the show through the 2010-11 season.
   Here are the 10 longest-running primetime scripted series in the history of television:

••3. Law & Order (NBC): 1990 – present
••4. Lassie (CBS): 1954-71 (not including first-run syndication from 1971-74)
