Idol Chatter is back: American Idol heads to the chopping block

Hey everyone, Mike Koehler here. Multimedia Editor-slash-American Idol podcast host. Our new season kicked off today with about 27 minutes of podcast goodness, breaking down the first group of 12 to go before the judges, facing elimination from the American people. If you believe that sort of thing. If you haven’t listened to the podcast on NewsOK before, you’ll notice a few trends.* I never remember the names of contestants, so I call them “big face girl”, “Handsome McHandsome” and “Sanjaya Jr.” If Melinda Doolittle had ever heard what we said, she would not have been pleased.* Simon is always right. Always.* The only reason they got a new judge is because Paula is thisclose from a padded cell.* I think the whole show is fixed. This week was no different, since two of the best (or at least most memorable) contestants were (SURPRISE!) singing last. Here’s a rundown.dannygokey.jpg  This is Danny “Dead Wife Guy” Gokey. He was the best last night, he’s moving on. Heck, he might win. (Even though this year it’s a girl’s turn). anoopdesai.jpg This is Anoop Desai. He was a great performer last night, he should get through and he was great in “Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle.”alexisgrace.jpg  Alexis Grace and her pink hair dye worked it last night. She’s decided to be the sultry contestant. She’s my pick for the third one through (out of the 12). Unless …. tatianadeltoro.jpg  Tatiana “The Trainwreck” Del Toro… moves through. That’s right, the Hollywood week princess of crazytown has a chance. Knowing the voters of America, entertainment and the chance that someone could be injured, is good for a vote.Everybody else on opening night stunk. Really. Junior high karaoke territory.Want to know why? Listen to our podcast here.Back next week with more.- mk
