Deal for “Days of Our Lives” fans
“Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Our Lives.” And in a few days, you could own a share of the popular daytime drama’s theme song.
Caroline Boyce, widow of the song’s co-songwriter Tommy Boyce, is auctioning off a portion of her share of songwriter royalties paid by EMI Music Publishing.
SongVest (www.SongVest.com) will conduct the online auction which will begin Dec. 17 and end at 2 p.m. Dec. 20.
There will be 10 chances to get a piece of this “Days of Our Lives” memorabilia that comes with a paycheck. The shares up for bid are divided into 10 auctions, each consisting of numbered, limited-edition .25 percent shares. The high bidders will also receive a limited-edition, personalized and numbered album award.
The “Days of Our Lives” theme song has accompanied the soap opera’s opening sequence since it started airing on NBC in Nov. 8, 1965. Tommy Boyce, Bobby Hart and Charles Albertine composed the tune that was originally recorded in the C Major key for a small chamber string ensemble augmented by woodwinds, guitar and glockenspiel. It was updated in 1993 with an arrangement augmented by synthesizers and other electronic instruments.
