See “How the West Was Won” more clearly
Encore Westerns (channel 202 on Cox Digital Cable, 342 on Dish Network, 529 on Direct TV) presents the world television premiere of the restored and newly remastered (from the original Cinerama three-panel print) Academy Award-winning epic “How the West Was Won” at 7 p.m. Aug. 30.
The 1962 production, directed in three parts by John Ford (“Stagecoach”), Henry Hathaway (“True Grit”) and George Marshall (“Destry Rides Again”), follows four generations of a family from 1839 to 1889 as they move westward from New York State toward the Pacific Ocean.
The film features a “who’s who” of Hollywood legends including John Wayne, Henry Fonda, James Stewart, Gregory Peck, Richard Widmark, Debbie Reynolds, Eli Wallach, Lee J. Cobb, Karl Malden and Walter Brennan, and it is narrated by Spencer Tracy.
An Oscar winner for Best Writing, Story and Screenplay, Best Film Editing and Best Sound, “How the West Was Won” was one of only two features made using the three-strip Cinerama widescreen process. Warner Home Video recently completed a six year frame-by-frame restoration, eliminating the original three-panel join lines.
Tulsa administrator in truTV’s “Principal’s Office”
Finally, a good reason to be sent to “The Principal’s Office.”
Tulsa East Central High School principal Tom O’Malley is one of the school administators featured in the new truTV series “The Principal’s Office” premiering at 8 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 21). He does not appear in the first two episodes, which air back-to-back, but look for him in one of the final six installments of the series.
“The Principal’s Office” gives viewers a ringside seat to the daily drama and outrageous excuses that school administators face. And there must be some doozies, because the truTV press release claims “viewers will cringe right along with the students as they witness the various situations these deans of discipline handle on a daily basis.”
Each half-hour episode introduces principals, their unique governing styles and their schools. And each time, several disciplinary issues unfold before the cameras.
The premiere episode, “Three Licks,” gets its title from the disciplinary choices offered by a principal in Arkansas: Saturday detenion or three licks from a paddle.
O’Malley (pictured in truTV Photo above) prefers for troublemakers to take responsibility for their actions. He cares deeply for his students, but he can be extremely tough on those who perform poorly out of sheer laziness.

TV Talk-Aug. 17
The Oklahoman’s TV Talk personalities Penny Soldan and Heather Warlick tape a weekly video for Newsok.tv that highlights upcoming TV programs worth watching.
They’re not fast talkers, but just in case you didn’t catch all the information for a show of interest, here is their script for the week of Aug. 17.
P: Welcome to TV Talk, your guide to what’s worth watching. I’m Penny Soldan, Heather Warlick is my co-host, and not only do we have a list of next week’s best bets, we also have all the dates for when your favorite Sunday shows return in fall.
H: That’s right, the official start of the 2008-2009 Primetime Network Television season is Sept. 22, and for the next six weeks, Penny and I will provide the series premiere dates for shows on ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox and The CW. But first, let’s talk about next week.
P: Our top pick, which is also featured on the cover of TV Week, is “The Cheetah Girls One World,” an original TV movie premiering at 7 p.m. Friday on the Disney Channel.
H: Actress Raven-Symone had prior commitments that kept her from taking part in the three-month shoot in India, but the multi talented Sabrina Bryan, Kiely Williams and Adrienne Bailon are back for the third installment of the movie franchise.
P: Another must-see movie is “Dear Prudence” airing at 8 p.m. Saturday on the Hallmark Channel. This is a new mystery movie series starring Emmy winning actress Jane Seymour as a Martha Stewart-like TV personality whose homespun remedies end up helping police solve crimes.
H: She should send some tips to Domestic Diva to share with our readers. Speaking of domestic duties (or not), there’s going to be a roast on Comedy Central at 9 p.m. Sunday. Actor and comedian Bob Saget will be in the hot seat for “Comedy Central Roast of Bob Saget,” however viewer discretion is advised.
P: Premiering at 9 p.m. Monday on Discovery is “Into the Unknown With Josh Bernstein.” Josh is a traveler, explorer and educator who goes on a world-wide search to uncover hidden treasures and natural wonders.
H: “Dinner: Impossible” returns for a new season at 9 p.m. Wednesday on Food Network. Iron chef Michael Symon is the new host for the show, and his first challenge is to cook for an exclusive event being held at Alcatraz.
P: Two shows premiere Thursday. There’s “Tabatha’s Salon Takeover” at 9 p.m. on Bravo in which the former “Shear Genius” contestant offers advise to salon owners.
H: The other one is “The Principal’s Office” at 9 p.m. on Bravo. It looks at the daily drama that unfolds inside (where else?) the principal’s office. Tulsa East Central High School principal Tom O’Malley will be featured in a future episode.
P: And finally on Friday, another new show. “Who are You Wearing” premieres at 9 p.m. on TLC. Keisha Whitaker, wife of actor Forest Whitaker, serves as host, and would-be designers compete for the chance to design for — and dress — a celebrity for a red-carpet event.
H: Those are next week’s top picks. And now we are going to run through the premiere dates for Sunday’s broadcast network shows starting in September. The CW begins its new schedule Sept. 21 with three new shows — “In Harm’s Way” at 6 p.m., “Valentine” at 7 p.m. and “Easy Money” at 8 p.m.
P: The bulk of Sunday’s fall lineup returns Sept. 28. On ABC, there’s “Extreme Makoever: Home Edition”opening with a two-hour episode at 6 p.m., followed by the fifth-season premeire of “Desperate Housewives” at 8 p.m. and the third-season premiere of “Brothers & Sisters” at 9 p.m.

Want to know more about Martha Stewart?
In September, Fine Living Network (FLN) will premiere “Whatever, Martha!”, a new, weekly half-hour series featuring Sirius Satellite Radio’s popular talk-show hosts Alexis Stewart (Martha’s daughter) and Jennifer Koppelman Hutt (daughter of Charles Koppelman, executive chairman of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia).
Known for jolting radio listeners with their irreverent and comedic points of view about life each day on “Whatever With Alexis and Jennifer,” this new, unscripted TV format provides a provocative platform for the radio duo to reveal their very colorful, witty and sometimes shocking opinions about Martha Stewart, Martha’s performance, appearance and approach to projects in memorable segments selected from the Emmy-winning program “Martha Stewart Living”, which premiered 15 years ago.
In each episode, Alexis and Jennifer focus on America’s foremost lifestyle authority while she’s in her element: whether Martha is cooking, cleaning, crafting or executing some other domestic endeavor with unparalleled style, the pair pulls no punches as they relay their candid and often acerbic opinions about the TV host’s impressive television career.
Commentary explores the humorous to the brutally honest — whether they are discussing her fashion sense, skillful handiwork or interactions with a particular guest, nothing is off limits. And proving they are more than just talk, Jennifer and Alexis will get off of the couch to attempt to tackle some of Martha’s projects in-studio, a sometimes frustrating effort that produces some hysterical on-camera moments.
“Whatever, Martha!” will premiere at 8 p.m. Sept. 16 on FLN (channel 113 on Dish Network, 172 on Cox Digital Cable and 232 on Direct TV).
