TV Talk: Aug. 24-30
The Oklahoman’s TV Talk personalities Penny Soldan and Heather Warlick tape a weekly video for Newsok.tv that highlights upcoming TV programs worth watching.
They’re not fast talkers, but just in case you didn’t catch all the information for a show of interest, here is their script for the week of Aug. 24.
H: Hi, I’m Heather Warlick, this is my co-host Penny Soldan, and this is TV Talk, your guide to what’s worth watching. In four minutes time, we are going to run through next week’s must-see programs and give you premiere dates for all your favorite Monday shows returning in fall.
P: We better get going then. “Greek” is the word for Tuesday, as the ABC Family series that follows college campus life returns for its second season at 8 p.m. Watch for Kappa Tau pledge Ben Bennett, because he is played by Oklahoma actor Danny Weaver.
H: Sunday’s word is “Z Rock,” a new semi-scripted comedy series premiering at 10:30 p.m. on IFC. It follows the New York band Z02 that works as a rock band at night and a children’s party band during the day.
P: On Monday, catch the summer finale of “Saving Grace” at 9 p.m. on TNT and the series premiere of “America’s Toughest Job” at 8 p.m. on NBC. Among the toughest jobs the 13 participants will attempt are rodeo bullfighting, oil rigging and ice road trucking.
H: Also on Monday, the British version of “The Apprentice” will premiere at 8 p.m. on CNBC, and University of Oklahoma President David Boren will be interviewed on “Writing Out Loud” at 10:30 p.m. on OETA.
P: Speaking of OU, the Sooners’ college football opener against Chattanooga will be televised live on pay-per-view at 6 p.m. Saturday. Suggested retail price for the broadcast is $29.95, and you’ll need to order it though your cable or satellite provider.
H: The Oklahoma State Cowboys play Washington State in their opener that will air live at 2:30 p.m. on Fox Sports Net Southwest, also known as FSNSW. This marks the second consecutive year that OSU has opened its season on national television.
P: And speaking of sports, the Summer Olympics come to a close on Sunday. Gold medal finals in rhythmic gymnastics, boxing and men’s water polo will be televised from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on NBC, and NBC’s primetime coverage from 6 to 10:30 will include the men’s volleyball gold-medal match and the Closing Ceremony.
H: And finally, “For the Love of Grace.” This is a must-see movie premiering at 8 p.m. Saturday on the Hallmark Channel. Mark Consuelos from “Hope & Faith” stars as a firefighter battling depression who rescues an author named Grace from an apartment fire.
P: As for Monday’s fall lineup on the five major networks, the first show back is NBC’s “Deal or No Deal”, which returns Monday. It is followed by the series premiere of “America’s Toughest Jobs.”
H: On Sept. 1st, “Gossip Girl” and “Prison Beak” premiere at 7 p.m. on The CW and Fox, respectively, and “One Tree Hill” begins again at 8 p.m. on The CW.
P: Coming back on Sept. 8th is “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.” It begins its second season at 7 p.m. on Fox.
H: On. Sept. 22, CBS premieres new seasons for all its Monday shows. There’s “The Big Bang Theory” at 7 p.m., “How I Met Your Mother” at 7:30, “Two and a Half Men” at 8 p.m., the new series “Worst Week” at 8:30 and “CSI: Miami” at 9 p.m.
P: Also on Sept. 22, ABC brings back “Dancing With the Stars” for a two-hour premiere at 7 p.m. It will be followed by “Boston Legal” at 9 p.m. And on NBC, there’s a “Heroes” clip show at 7 p.m. and the “Heroes” season premiere at 8 p.m.
H: Completing NBC’s Monday night lineup are “Chuck” at 7 p.m. and “My Own Worst Enemy” at 9 p.m. “Chuck” premieres on Sept. 29th and “My Own Worst Enemy” on Oct. 13th. Two special previews of “Life” will fill the 9 p.m. timeslot prior to Oct. 13th.
P: And the rest of ABC’s Monday lineup returns in October. “Samantha Who?” comes back Oct. 6th and “Eli Stone” on Oct. 14.
H: I will be out on assignment next week, so Mel Bracht will join Penny in the co-host chair. They will have Tuesday’s network premiere dates and much more.
