From Oklahoma to Navy to “Nashville Star”
Tommy Stanley doesn’t necessarily call himself an Oklahoman. But the NBC press release promoting “Nashville Star” does.
A week before the music competition series began its sixth season, NBC released the names of the show’s top 12 finalists. Last on the list (it was not alphabetical, but it did save the best for last) was:
TOMMY STANLEY
AGE: 23
HOMETOWN: Cushing, Oklahoma
CURRENT HOME: USS Kitty Hawk
An interview with Stanley (pictured above in NBC Photo) revealed that: A) he is 24, and B) he grew up mostly in Texas and moved to Oklahoma when he was 21 to live with his sister.
So why didn’t he tell NBC about the mistakes?
“I saw that and I didn’t make a big deal about it,” Stanley said. “I’m happy with any press release.”
He added: “Oklahoma, it’s a good state.”
