Here’s the “Deal”

dealnd_keyart.jpg   “Deal or No Deal” is asking viewers to help pick the next case model, and Elizabeth Ashley of Tulsa is among the 24 contenders for the job.

Over the course of the next eight shows — the first one being Monday, April 21 — three contenders will be featured each episode. And the viewers’ favorite from each episode(based on votes via text messaging) will advance to the semifinals.

The winner of the “Deal of No Deal Model Search” will be announced June 25 on NBC, and she will take her spot among the case models on the show’s fourth season premiere in fall.

As if voting for Ashley or one of the other contenders isn’t incentive enough, voters will have a chance to win $10,000 during each episode through June 24. The winner will be selected in a random drawing at the end of each episode.

amw_logo.jpg

On Saturday, “America’s Most Wanted” is looking to capture a fugitive from Oklahoma … and Texas … and Kansas … and Missouri.

The crime-fighting show is actually going after a fugitive from every state, and as much action as possible will be caught on camera for the show’s “50 States, 50 Fugitives” episode airing at 8 p.m. Saturday (April 19) on Fox.

Since the show premiered in 1988, viewers have helped “America’s Most Wantwalshpublicityphotobig.jpged” put 997 fugitives behind bars. According to the “AMW” case tracker, the show aided in the capture of 25 fugitives from Oklahoma.

Saturday’s national manhunt will be coordinated by “AMW” host John Walsh from the show’s crime center. Correspondents will report from various locations around the country, and the U.S. Marshals Servive will have task forces on alert and in position to move into action as viewer tips flow into the “AMW” hotline.

“Day Break” returns with new episodes … sorta

Cable network TV One is worth watching. Unfortunately, there is not enough space to include it in TV Week. (One of the 76 channels listed in TV Week would have to be dropped to make space for TV One, and there aren’t any that should be removed).

But here is some TV One news that viewers need to know: seven never-before-seen episodes of the action thriller series “Day Break,” that was cancelled by ABC in fall 2006, will air on the network beginning this month.

TV One (channel 167 on Cox Digital Cable, 241 on Direct TV) will air these “Day Break” episodes at 9 p.m. Sundays beginning April 20. That week’s episode will be repeated at midnight Sunday, 9 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Friday.

“Day Break” stars Taye Diggs (also from the canceled-too-soon show “Kevin Hill”) asdaybreak03yj5.jpg
Los Angeles police detective Brett Hooper, who is framed for the murder of an assistant district attorney. In each episode, he relives the same day over, gathering new clues each time as he tries to find out who framed him and clear his name.

Det. Hopper’s day gets more complicated each time the clock turns back, as each decision he makes changes the future in some way.

TV One began airing “Day Break” last month, beginning with the six episodes that ABC did air. The seven unaired episodes will complete the series, which only got an order for 13 episodes.

In conjunction with the series telecast, TV One Online (www.tvoneonline.com) has created an interactive destination for “Day Break” fans. Through blogs, games and video, users are invited to join a force of detectives to solve the murder mystery.

GSN giving away more “Bingo” bucks

bingo4.jpg   For those who have not played along with GSN’s “Bing America” game hosted by Patrick Duffy (“Dallas”), tax day would be a good time to give it a try.

For one day only  —  that being Tuesday, April 15  —  GSN will award $100 to at-home audience members who score a verified Bingo or match the numbers in the show’s “Bingo Bonus Round.”

The usual payout for those who play along and win is $50.

To play along, simply go to www.GSN.com/bingo to get your free downloadable “Bingo America” game cards. And tune in to GSN (channel 116 on Dish Network, 259 on Cox Digital Cable, 309 on Direct TV) at 7 and 10 p.m. Tuesday to play along with the on-air contestants as everyone goes for Bingo.

The “Bingo Bonus Numbers” are located on every downloaded bingo card and give viewers an extra chance to win during the bonus round at the end of each episode.

Those who do win at home have one day to submit their prize claims at www.GSN.com/Bingo.   Good luck, and have fun.

No more ‘Secret’

secret1.jpg

After one airing, CBS has pulled “Secret Talents of the Stars” off its schedule.

The show, which premiered at 9 p.m. Tuesday, will be replaced by “48 Hours Mystery” on April 15 and 22. “Shark” will move into the time slot with new episodes beginning April 29.

On Tuesday’s “Talents of the Stars,” show hosted by John O’Hurley, George Takei (“Star Trek”) sang a country song, country singer Clint Black performed stand-up comedy, singer Mya did a tap dance and Olympic ice skater Sasha Cohen performed a contortionist routine.

But not enough viewers tuned in to see these celebrities perform. According to Tuesday’s prime-time metered market ratings compiled by The Programming Insider, “Secret Talents of the Stars” had a 2.9 rating and ranked last among the 9 p.m. network programs. That was down by 59 percent from a repeat of “Criminal Minds” a year ago and 15 percent from the “
Jericho” series finale on March 25.

It’s understandable that CBS would pull the show with those low numbers. But it’s a shame that viewers will not get to see Danny Bonaduce (“The Partridge Family”) ride a unicycle, Ben Stein (“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”) swing dance, musician Sheila E. juggle or model Cindy Margolis do magic.

According to The Programming Insider, “Secret Talents of the Stars” is the 10th network series to be canceled after one telecast. The others are  “You’re in the Picture” (1961 on CBS), “”Turn-On” (1969 on ABC), “Co-Ed Fever” (1979 on ABC), “South of Sunset” (1993 on CBS), “Public Morals” (1996 on CBS), “Lawless” (1997 on Fox), “Dot Comedy” (2000 on ABC), “”The Will” (2005 on CBS) and “Emily’s Reasons Why Not” (2006 on ABC).

Nominate your ‘Favorite Mom’

NBC is searching for “America’s Favorite Mom.”               mom1.jpg

She can be a single mom, a working mom, a stay-at-home mom, a military mom or an unconventional mom. Those are the categories that nominations are being accepted in at www.AmericasFavoriteMom.com.

Nominations will be accepted through April 25.

A panel of experts will then narrow the pool to the top three semi-finalists in each category. Fifteen semi-finalists will appear on the “Today” show the week before Mother’s Day, and viewers will be able to cast votes online for their favorite.

Donny and Marie Osmond will crown the winner during the “Teleflora Presents America’s Favorite Mom” special airing at 6 p.m. May 11 (that’s Mother’s Day) on NBC. The winning mom will take home thousands of dollars in cash and prizes, including an 18k gold heart-shaped “America’s Favorite Mom” pendant trimmed with diamonds.

“Mothers are the cornerstone to every family,” Donny Osmond said in a press release issued by NBC. “They give so much of themselves everyday and Marie and I are excited to play a part in honoring America’s real treasures.”

“Donny and I grew up in a large family under the tender care of an exceptional mother,” said Marie Osmond, mother of eight children herself.  “She was the perfect ’stage mother.’  She was there for us every stage of our lives.  On this-year anniversary of Mother’s Day, we want to recognize and applaud the women who create the future for every community through their dedication to raising children.”
