Video of the Day: Roxy Music, “Love Is the Drug” (Todd Terje remix)
Many modern remixes of classic songs, notably the Lindstrom and and Prinz Thomas remix of Roxy Music’s “Avalon” that came out a couple of weeks ago, chop the hell out of the original and make the fan wonder just how much the DJ hated the song — apparently, so much that they wanted to blot out all that was special about it. But Todd Terje’s mix of “Love Is the Drug” actually recalls the remix aesthetic of the mid-1980s, when DJs like Arthur Baker were bolstering beats to maximum breakdance effect, emphasizing hooks and stretching the songs to epic length. It is accompanied by a video that uses archival Roxy Music footage and splices in aesthetically appropriate imagery of Anita Ekberg, Rita Hayworth and other women Bryan Ferry would have jumped into the TARDIS to bed.

Thanks for the link, George. I’m a big Roxy Music fan, and I never understood why they didn’t take off in America. (Yeah, I’m *that* old.) Perhaps a younger generation will delve into the Roxy catalog thanks to remixes like this one.
