Last week on Facebook I found myself defending the artistic integrity of Disney’s straight-to-dvd Tinkerbell movies. I can no longer pretend an Ice Age reference is beneath me. (in my defense though, I did have to look up the squirrel’s name)

1. This song had wheels under it for the past year at country radio, and in all the years I’ve been watching this noise, there’s always one of these. This year, they are the “Ordinary People” to Jay-Z’s “Raging Bull.”

2. I’m on it.

3. Yes, though I’m a little shocked at you unholstering the “Ice Age” reference.

4. I’ve given up on the structural integrity of Best New Artist — they always get the particulars wrong. Always arbitrary, always capricious, but Spalding is awesome.

5. Dunno, but Mick was insanely good.

6. He doesn’t go to the Grammys. The Grammys go to him.

Okay, i missed most of the show due to just forgetting, but caught up a little on YouTube before the Grammy police pulled the plug. Random thoughts:

1. Who the blazes is Lady Antebellum? And how is that song that sounds like any top-40 New Country Hit possibly better than “F*** You” AND “Empire State of Mind?”

2. If this performance sold you on The Avetts, you really need to check out their “Live Volume 3″ DVD. The Grammys got about 15% of the full Avett energy.

3. Is it me or is Eminem looking more and more like Scrat from the Ice Age movies?

4. Nothing against Esperanza Spalding, who I’m not familiar with (soon to be rectified), but the Best New Artis category always confuses me. EMusic has three Spalding albums dating back 5 years. Meanwhile, Janelle Monae released her furst proper album in 2010 and got no nod.

5. Who was the bandleader/guitarist for Mick? Anyone who can hold their own Charisma-wise with Mick deserves a mention.

6. Wait, where was Jay-Z?
