Oscar Nominations and a Big Snub for “The Dark Knight”

Harvey lobbies for “The Reader.” (Well, not really)

The Academy Awards will be presented Feb. 22 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. Personally, I’m mightily ticked off that Christopher Nolan and “The Dark Knight” failed to receive nominations for director and best picture. My take is that Harvey pulled out all the stops for “The Reader,” which aced out Bruce Wayne.

“The Dark Knight” definitely got the big snub, but I think just as egregious is the absence of “WALL-E” and “The Wrestler” in the best picture category. I enjoyed “The Reader” and respect it, but can’t understand its inclusion in that category — although Winslet definitely deserved the best actress nod.

Other notable snubs — “Revolutionary Road,” Charlie Kaufman’s screenplay for “Synecdoche, New York,” and Sally Hawkins for “Happy-Go-Lucky.”

Overall, though, I have to admit I’m really happy about Richard Jenkins, Melissa Leo, Courtney Hunt and Martin McDonaugh getting their due.

hmm. i saw the dark knight and milk. i think i’m gonna be a little out of the loop on oscar night. oh, well. i’ll watch for the clothes, as usual. go, milk!
