Not so much “freak folk” as following in the neo-traditional pattern of Fleet Foxes and Blitzen Trapper, Diane is, like Joanna Newsom, a native of Nevada City, but is not nearly as idiosyncratic. She opened for Vashti Bunyan on that singer’s comeback tour, which made perfect stylistic sense.
