Random 10 for January 5, 2009
1. Future Clouds & Radar, “Build Havana.” Ah, the perfect, dreamy update of Texas music, with just the right level of poptronic goodness as a spice. Reminds me of Neil Finn, which puts it in rarefied air.
2. XTC, “King for a Day.”
3. Jay-Z feat. Nas, “Success.”
4. Georgie James, “Henry and Hanzy.”
5. The Style Council, “Walls Come Tumbling Down.” After the relative placidity of Cafe Bleu, Weller got his socialism back on with Our Favourite Shop. Wow, I had that hair once, and I miss it like last summer.
6. Thee Hydrogen Terrors, “All Andy Warhol Weekend.”
7. Remy Shand, “I Met Your Mercy.”
8. Beach House, “Apple Orchard.”
9. Keane, “Spiralling.”
10. Blitzen Trapper, “Furr.” Fleet Foxes got all the classic folkie attention in 2008, but Furr was nearly as good.
