Either/Or, Episode 14: January Movie Doldrums
In Either/Or, we take two people in similar pursuits, and you choose between them. It can be based on any criteria: professional ability, personality, intellectual prowess, physical pulchritude, or who you’d want backing you up in a knife fight. It really doesn’t matter: just choose Either/Or.
Opening This Month: Either Anne Hathaway of “Bride Wars”:
Or Odette Yustman of “The Unborn”:
Lions in Winter: Either Clint Eastwood of “Gran Torino”:
Or Dustin Hoffman of “Last Chance Harvey”:

Hathaway, Hathaway, Hathaway. Odette is no piker, but she doesn’t have the distinctive beauty of Anne – and, as she showed in “Cloverfield,” she doesn’t have Ms. Hathaway’s acting chops (yet, anyway), either.
Eastwood is a pretty progressive Republican, so I don’t share Keith’s disdain for the guy’s politics, but I still have to go for the M.oT. And I agree with Keith: Look at the guy; how can you NOT love that he’s a superstar?
Ya… that Anne Hathaway photo gets the thumbs-up, and that ain’t my thumb. The Eastwood / Hoffman choice is tough without seeing either of the films. So the choice comes down to making millions in drag or making millions in playing straight-man to an orangutan.
What about either/or of Eastwood in Gran Torino vs. Michael Douglas in Falling Down?

Ms. Hathaway b/c of that pic. Unfair matchup.
Mr. Hoffman b/c of Mr. Eastwood’s politics. Plus, kudos to an elfin-looking guy who was able to have an extraordinary career as a leading man.
