Random 10 For September 16, 2008
1. Club 8, “Whatever You Want.” The Swedish duo swings beautifully on this single from The Boy Who Couldn’t Stop Dreaming. The clip is one of those rare promos where subtlety, shadow and an unhurried edit won out over frenetic flash and manages to tell several stories with just a pan of the faces in this dark club.
2. Elvis Costello, “A Good Year For the Roses.”
3. Jim Noir, “All Right.”
4. Great Northern, “Our Bleeding Heart.”
5. Super Furry Animals, “Rings Around the World.” Gruff Rhys takes a ponderous subject, the proliferation of communication devices and surplus noise, and then turns it into a car stereo anthem pitched somewhere between Brian Wilson and ELO.
6. CSS, “How I Became Paranoid.”
7. William Shatner, “Has Been.”
8. Kaiser Chiefs, “Boxing Champ.”
9. Melvins, “Candy-O.”
10. Lavender Diamond, “Open Your Heart.” Unbridled happiness in Los Angeles. Almost too happy.
