Random 10 for September 15, 2008
1. The Dears, “You and I Are a Gang of Losers.” A beautiful song perfectly rendered by Murray Lightburn and Co. and a gorgeously cinematic video to accompany it, and yet the semi-title song from Gang of Losers is not a worldwide hit. The A&R reps at the majors are sitting on their hands.
2. Evangelicals, “Paperback Suicide.”
3. Miles Davis, “Generique.”
4. U2, “City of Blinding Lights.”
5. Tegan and Sara, “Back In Your Head.” Yes, it’s doe-eyed Canadian day at Staticblog. At first, I thought they were doing the ”We’re going to make babies!” scene from Woody Allen’s “Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* But Were Afraid to Ask,” but it’s apparently a little more high-minded than that.
6. Bryan Ferry, “Don’t Want to Know.”
7. Donald Fagen, “Mary Shut the Garden Door.”
8. Blood Meridian, “Soldiers of Christ.”
9. Self, “What a Fool Believes.”
10. Electric Six, “Radio Ga-Ga.” Dick Valentine’s valentine to Farrokh Bulsara. Nice teeth, Dick.
