Random 10 for September 9, 2008
1. Pavement, “Range Life.” When my son was eight weeks old, the kid could scream for hours — he was like Chris Cornell circa, well, Screaming Life. I had Sirius Satellite Radio at the time, and I would spend most mornings driving him to day care trying to restore what passes for sanity by listening to Left of Center. One particularly hostile and screamy morning, “Range Life” came on, and he just stopped completely. Apparently, as Malkmus suggested, if he could settle down, then he would settle down.
2. This Is Ivy League, “An Introduction.”
3. Battles, “Bad Trails.”
4. Eisley, “Brightly Wound.”
5. The Sleepy Jackson, “Sunkids.” This is a beautiful song, but I always feel like I chugged Robitussin by the time it finishes. Woooozy.
6. Dean and Britta, “Night Nurse.”
7. Dennis Wilson, “Tug of Love.”
8. Blonde Redhead, “Misery is a Butterfly.”
9. Dalek, “Paragraphs Relentless.”
10. The Minutemen, “The Roar of the Masses Could Be Farts.” Having watched far too much cable news this morning, I’m convinced that D. Boon was a prophet.
