With all this talk about this being the most important election ever, it makes me wonder… Is it really?
I think not. Every election year, we hear people say, “This is the most important election ever.” But I beg to differ. Where does our generation get off saying that our issues are more important than that came before us? Were the elections during the Cold War less important that the one we are facing now? Or what about the Space Race? It bothers me that we have the audacity to think that the problems we are facing now are more important than the ones when Pearl Harbor was attacked. We think we’re in a financial crisis now? What about the stock market crash of 1929? Just six months ago the Dow was soaring over 14,000. Granted, the Dow has fallen below 9,000, but that is still no crash. It just makes me think that all of the “most important election ever” speak is just a ploy by the media and politicians to scare people into voting… and I don’t like it.

Chad… Who gives a big hairy rat’s butt, WHAT you like or don’t like!?
This is the first time, in U.S. History, when TWO PATRIOTIC AMERICANS… WEREN’T… The primary Candidates. Instead, we have ONE Candidate, who has served in, the U.S. Military and has proven himself, for DECADES! Then, on the other hand, we have a guy, who associates with Terrorists, Radical Anti American Preachers, and Anti American Groups.
And THIS election, is certainly going to divide this Nation in a LOT of ways, should Barack Obama, happen to win. And, NO OTHER Presidential Election, has ever held, so many tragic possibilities.

Perhaps EACH successive election is the “most important ever.” That doesn’t necessarily take away from the importance of past elections. It’s important because it’s happening NOW. Just a thought.
As far as “scare tactics” to get people to vote, here’s a scary thought: people like Pruitt believe, in absence of any legitimate evidence, that Obama is a radical, anti-American terrorist-sympathizer. And those people are going to go out and vote.
Now, there are plenty of reasons to support either candidate. They both are qualified. They both are patriotic. They both would do a perfectly fine job as President. But the fact that such ignorant assertions are running rampant today should be enough to scare EVERYBODY to the polls.
For the love of all that is patriotic, make an INFORMED decision, based on actual campaign issues, and cast your ballot.

Chad,
I see your point and agree that policy wise this may be monumental but not the most important election ever! My problem is that you assume that the policies and state of the nation are making it the most important election ever. What about the fact that there will be a historical moment on Tuesday when a black man or a women will be elected to office. You are likely a white man so you don’t see this as such a monumental event, but as a woman I find this incredible and am excited to be a part of history in the making. I think commentators are completely justified in calling it one of the most important elections in history! Just try looking at it from another point of view. Just a thought.

Miss Amanda…
Since you directed, part of your comment, toward me… May I say:
Thanks, for helping me achieve ONE of my goals; which was to expose, moronic Liberals, who insist on turning blind eyes and deaf ears, to the FACTS!
It’s rather ironic that, in fact, JOURNALISTS have supplied me with, the VERY factual information, I need, to make a perfectly logical decision. And I find, that these pictures, videos, articles and quotes, carry a lot more weight, with me, than the superficial campaign promises, ANY candidate makes, on stage, in front of the multitudes.
“Actual Campaign Issues”, all depend on who you talk to. Myself? I just so happen to feel that, a person’s ethical and moral stances, are just as important as, their political views. And they’re CERTAINLY more important than the cost of a person’s wardrobe, how many houses a couple owns, how old someone is, how much money a spouse has, or even a Governor’s expense reports.
You’ll certainly make a wonderful Bleeding Heart Liberal Journalist, with your failure to accept or report, the COMPLETE TRUTH! Keep up the good work.

What’s with all the commas?

Pruitt,
I’d love to read/watch the information to which you refer, but you haven’t cited any specifics.
Why would anyone accept the “COMPLETE TRUTH,” as you call it, when you haven’t even revealed where your information came from? And why would the mere act of questioning something make someone a “bleeding heart liberal”? Isn’t questioning what we’re ALL supposed to do?
That was precisely my point. Some folks get all worked up about hearsay, and they forget to keep a level head and evaluate any “facts” that are given to them. This happens with Democrats and Republicans alike.
This is a national election. Both sides are going to stoop low; that’s just the nature of the game. It’s OUR job, as patriots, to pay attention and question the mud-slinging.
Perhaps you’re serious, and perhaps you’re merely “trolling.” I’ll probably never know.
Either way, my point remains the same: Level-headed patriots, get out there on Tuesday and vote (Republican OR Democrat) with your brains!
Cheers,
Amanda

Pruitt’s entire argument is based on fallacious, ad hominem attacks. It’s constructed on a foundation of lies and name-calling. I’m just passing by, but what a waste of time. Entirely. Why don’t you go watch one of Reverend Wright’s sermons instead of parroting whatever Faux News tells you to? It’s called youtube and it’s two clicks away.
I do, however, think there are arguments to be made about what’s going on in the media right now in regards to voting. But, this article is basically pointless. The media is trying to scare people into caring about their democracy? Is this supposed to be a bad thing? You don’t like organized groups of people attempting to mobilize a population to GIVE A SHIT?
And there lies the real issue. There are all of these rockthevote campaigns trying to mobilize the masses into voting, as if voting is an end in and of itself. How about we mobilize populations into GIVING A SHIT ABOUT CIVICS more than once every four years? Or about the happenings in the world other than the latest iPod release? Instead, we just tell them to throw their uneducated checkmark into the bucket, and then to pat themselves on the back as if they accomplished something. It’s precisely the mindset that allows the population to be enslaved by political campaigns utilizing focus-group research and marketing-schemes; the emotion-driven images that have replaced historical context and policy issues.
