FOODLESS “BREATHARIAN” CLAIMS TO SURVIVE ON SUNLIGHT ALONE
Hira Ratan Manek
Wikepedia defines “breatharians” as those who ….”claim food and possibly water are not necessary, and that humans can be sustained solely by prana (the vital life force in Hinduism), or according to some, by the energy in sunlight.” This story has been perplexing many experts–including some NASA scientists–because the space agency apparently confirmed the 64 year-old mechanical engineer went 130 days without food. But his wife purports that Manek also consumes buttermilk–a food source perfectly capable of sustaining a person for extended periods of time. It has a whopping 460 calories per cup.

The first problem with addressing anything like this is that we must take into account all that we don’t know – which is almost everything. Was ist ist. Was nicht ist möglich, as they say.
Given that salute to the possible I have a couple questions to pose.
First, how is it that this Mr. Manek somehow developed cones and rods in his eyes that do not burn up when exposed to direct sunlight for elongated periods of time?
Second, how often does he get sick? Even if one drank only buttermilk and fruit juice, this is not enough nutrients to live healthily. Were this the case, and he a relatively normal human being, I see a goiter in his future, at least.
Finally, if he eats the sun does he shit rainbows?
This seems like a lot of malarky to me. However, there have been cases of buddhist monks and yogi’s doing some pretty incredible things through meditation, determination, and practice.
Of course, most of those claims were probably fit to fertilize a garden as well.
So, I suppose it could happen – but this smells of cattle’s leftovers more than anything.
Here’s my thought – the human mind is capable of some pretty incredible things. Has he deluded himself? Or has he somehow convinced his body to extract all it needs from his liquid diet through belief and/or minor (but rapid) evolution?
Perhaps (and I think this is the most likely scenario) he is the alien Sylvia Browne was predicting!
That must be it.
