Just say neigh?

Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy. People eat oats and bucks and little lambs, but most of us don’t want to eat old Stewball.

Suddenly, horses are in the food section news. IKEA stores in Europe pulled their famous meatballs from cafeteria menus because traces of horseflesh were found in them. In Oklahoma, legislation to allow slaughterhouses for horses has gotten surprisingly strong support.

One bill’s author is accused of an ethical conflict because of financial ties to livestock auctions, but supporters say this isn’t about making hay so much as it is about dealing with abandoned, neglected and unwanted horses.

Despite the IKEA development, some Europeans do eat oats, lambs and mares. Whether the slaughterhouse legislation is baled into law or lawmakers bail on the concept remains to be seen, but the jokes are already in full gallop.

Does “red pony” refer to the doneness of the meat? Saddle up the No. 2 Combo! Want fries, tots or spurs with that?

legalizing horse slaughter? It is so toxic much less inhuman. OK known for it’s puppy mills uncover the truth that horse breeders are over breeding instead of selling to someone like me who would like to have a good horse they are selling straight to the auctions so they can keep their prices high. I have taken the time to call several barns and trainers and some comments were that feed and training young horses not perfect for show or racing are sent directly to an auction knowing they will probably be killed. They don’t want to take the time with someone like me who would love to have another good horse but can’t spend $5,000. Sick market! This horse slaughter bill is unacceptable for multiple reasons. Health of the public! Toxins – tainted horse meat from Bute, Lasix, pesticides, wormers, high cortisol and adrenaline levels. Many countries are rapidly pulling horse meat off their shelves… including Russia, France, Switzerland, and most in the EU are trying to ban horse meat to be sold for human consumption! The inhumane treatment of horses during auctions, transport, holding pens and slaughter! Horses should be classified as companion animals. There are many rescues that would gladly help people if they need horse adoption or care. friend Heart of a Horse on FB and read about how horses have saved young people from suicides, how children overcame the autistic problems, and how horses headed for slaughter were rescued and became great family pets or helpers. I can NOT believe the Horse Show Capital of the World is now going to be known as the Horse Slaughter State! Stop this immediately please!!! Wake up and educate the population that this will do not only damage to the reputation of OK but is bad for the health welfare of the world.

Horses have been with us since the beginning of this country. They have plowed our fields, been our transportation, fought in our wars and spread our country west. They are intelligent, loyal and one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet. I have six horses and have watched as they sometimes run in a group just for the sheer joy of running. I remember working in the yard one late spring day and literally heard them coming before I saw them, Then they came around into view, manes streaming, hoofs pounding, heads high moving in graceful coordination with the lead horse as they made the corner and streamed by the yard. The sun was setting behind them and my only wish was that I had a camera to capture the moment. When they saw me, the circled around and came to the fence, still dancing and prancing and jockeying for prime position for my attention. Horses are part of our heritage and our history. Stop the USDA and Valley Meat. Here in Oklahoma stop this legislation that does nothing except making some fat cat meat processor fatter. What next? our cats and dogs? Don’t talk to me about overpopulation and neglect. We have laws for neglect.Enforce them.
