Cathy was quoted in a July 2 Biblical Recorder story as saying that he supports the biblical definition of the family unit.

]]> There’s a controversy brewing over statements made by Chick-fil-A founder Dan Cathy and now the Muppets and Mike Huckabee (pictured) are squaring off on opposing sides.  

Here’s what happened:

Cathy was quoted in a July 2 Biblical Recorder story as saying that he supports the biblical definition of the family unit. Here’s an excerpt from the story: 

Some have opposed the company’s support of the traditional family. “Well, guilty as charged,” said Cathy when asked about this opposition.
 
“We are very much supportive of the family – the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”

Apparently, this did not go over well with the Jim Henson Company that provides Muppets toys for Chick-fil-A kids meals.

The company’s CEO Lisa Henson who is said to be a strong supporter of marriage equality, decided to end her company’s relationship with the restaurant chain and donate the money they have received from Chick-fil-A for the toys to the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

Enter Huckabee, a Baptist preacher, former governor and former Republican presidential candidate. Huckabee announced on Facebook that he supports Chick-fil-A’s right to uphold its biblical stance. He is now calling for a “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.”   

The Baptist Press reported that it reposted the Biblical Recorder story about Cathy on its website and “it quickly became the most-read story on Baptist Press’ website for the year.”  

People are definitely talking about.
