About
Carla Hinton, an Oklahoma City native, joined The Oklahoman in 1986 as a National Society of Newspaper Editors minority intern. She began reporting full-time for The Oklahoman in 1988 and has served as beat writer (Oklahoma City Hall, social services, general assignment, etc.), assistant Community (Metro) editor, Community editor and Religion editor (June 2002 to present).
She has enjoyed learning about the many different world religions in her role as religion editor. Career highlights have included meeting renowned evangelist Billy Graham to covering the election of a new pope after the death of beloved Pope John Paul II. Hinton also has gleaned considerable knowledge about the state’s Southern Baptist by attending multiple Southern Baptist Convention annual meetings in various locations in the U.S.
In her spare time, she enjoys reading suspense novels (ala James Patterson), watching HGTV shows and attending her children’s sports events.
