This is odd. I have never seen an Atheist keep Christmas as the name for the holiday when they are upset about it. You’d think they would change the name. Maybe to make it mainstream?

I like the way the first person to reply here rants that “the term Christmas Tree originated with Christ”, when in fact the Bible mentions absolutely nothing about it and the Christmas tree tradition was actually copied from tree-worshipping pagans.

There’s nothing wrong with an atheist celebrating Christmas. It’s just a word, which is popularly used to describe a western holiday which itself is actually a Christian hijacking of the pagan winter solstice festival. You Christians may think the word has great power, but to us, it’s just a word. Its roots are no more meaningful to us than the fact that “sinister” once meant “left-handed”.

Strange that they left in the name of Christ. Why not call it a “holiday” book? No, wait, that would indicate “holly day”… so then, hmmm….

That’s all fine and dandy to include Christmas trees, stockings, food, etc, BUT the term CHRISTMAS TREE ORIGINATED WITH CHRIST!
It wasn’t until the 1800′s that people began putting up trees and decorating them with presents underneath to signify the the “light” of the Northern Star and the gifts which baby Jesus received from the Magi.
When Christmas became COMMERCIALIZED is when people lost the REAL MEANING OF THE EVENT!
