‘Glee’ gets religion
If you are a die-hard Gleek, you know that last night’s “Glee” episode tackled the weighty subject of spirituality?
What did you think about the show?

And yes, just so you know, I would probably be catergorized as a Gleek. I sang in the school choir in middle school and high school, took show choir my senior year (lots of singing and dancing — at the same time!) and I have sung in the church choir for many years. We didn’t have a Glee club at my high school, but I identify with the characters on the show … well, some of them.
Here’s what some other folks are saying about last night’s “Glee” episode:
USA Today’s Faith & Reason blog: “Glee mashes up God, music, religion — and Satanic Sue”
The Atlantic: “Glee gets religion … with mixed results”
The TV Column, The Washington Post: “Glee tackles religion, swallows grilled cheese”
The Deacon’s Bench, Beliefnet.com: “Don’t stop believing: Glee gets religion”

Hi Amber,
Thanks for your e-mail. I have a column about TV and religion this Saturday so be sure to look for it. I’ll be listing my Top 10 favorite TV episodes with religious themes Saturday on this blog. I will be encouraging readers like you to come up with your own Top 10 and post them. You might think about it and post your favorites sometime Saturday. I thought it would be fun. I really like “Glee” and I watch it with my 16 year old daughter. I was in choir and show choir in high school so it resonates with me.
Thanks again for your e-mail!
Carla

I have to admit at first I was a little thrown off, the “cheesus” stuff made me want to turn it off, and I have always loved the show! As a Christian I felt it was making fun of and lacking serious respect for who Jesus really is, so I forwarded to see If it would get any better and I was pleasantly surprised that they “seemed” to really be pushing the need for God, in a very different way! Would I recommend the episode to someone….probably not!
