Midwest City makeover family experiences loss

Michelle Grimes, one half of the husband-wife duo that received a Christmas home makeover, died Wednesday.

Grimes, 51, succumbed to cancer.

I wrote a Dec. 24, 2009 story about the Grimes family and the home makeover that was funded and conducted by their friends, community volunteers, public safety groups and businesses.michellegrimes

The day I visited the couple’s newly renovated house in Midwest City, Michelle Grimes was up and moving around, talking to friends who had gathered to help the family move back into their home. She said she was appreciative of all the efforts that friends Scott and DeAnn Warful had made to coordinate the huge community project that resulted in the newer, comfortable surroundings.

The renovations were completed just in time for the family to move in and have Christmas together in their refurbished home.

Michelle Grimes’  illness was one of the main reasons her friends rallied to make the family’s home as nice as possible.

She and her husband, Dan, had been in ministry together for many, many years and were known for their love and compassion for others.

It’s good to know that what she gave freely, came flowing back to her in such a unique way.

My thoughts and prayers are with Dan Grimes and the Grimes family.
