Praying in stormy weather

Some folks may remember that when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans three years ago, there were rumors that some Christians believed that the storm was God’s punishment for what they deemed to be New Orleans’ depravity, i.e. Mardi Gras, Bourbon Street revelry, etc.

Another segment of people condemned those sentiments and said the hurricane was simply an act of nature.

What should one’s prayer be in stormy weather?

Should you pray for protection for certain areas … your area?

The Rev. Michael Kinnamon, ninth general secretary of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the United States, offers what he calls a “prayer of humility andf hope” during hurricane season.
