I am thankful to read about somebody within politics whose willing to take a stand by arming our teachers and staff on the grounds of educational facilities. I think it's sad that so many people are deceived to think that eliminating guns will eliminate criminal activity.

The recent tragedy at Sandy Hook has brought the worst and best out of the American people. Guns are not the problem. The problem is that innocence is not being protected. We cannot continue down the habitual path of reaction, instead we need to be proactive by choosing to arm mentally stable law abiding citizens with the necessary tools to prevent innocent lives that we love most from being taken. Our nation cannot afford another Sandy Hook or Columbine tragedy.

Please support your state legislature to allow law abiding citizens to carry in our schools.

I chose the teaching profession, because children are important to me. I would protect each and every one of my students as though they were my own. It infuriates me that people will claim that they can trust teachers with their children the duration of the school day with no means of truly protecting them. I was nearly brought to tears today when a student asked what I would do if someone tried to break into my classroom and kill them. I told them the only thing I could. I would place myself between them and the shooter and try and stop them with anything I could get my hands on.I would literally be bringing a coffee cup to a gun fight.

I support this fully. My wife fears for my wife daily. She should not have to fear for my safety in one of the places that should be the safest place around. As long as schools are really "defenseless prey" zones, they will be a target for those unstable citizens that won't stop at the sign that says "gun free zone" and decide they can't shoot this school up today.

We've seen how making schools gun free zones has worked (or failed to work). Maybe it's time to consider an alternate means of making schools safe for our nations children.

I would have trusted Victoria Soto with a gun. I'd rather she have had the option of carrying one. Instead, she had to try to defend her students with nothing but her own body, and died in the attempt. Training and equipping this heroic woman to meet a fatal threat might have radically altered the events of that day.

i would be okay with a CLEET certified teacher carrying a concealed weapon in my child's classroom. that's the same testing police officers go through. Teachers and administrators have no protection now and they are completely vulnerable to anyone who wants to cause them harm. protecting our students with a well trained responsible teacher or administrator makes sense to me. if you trust a school enough to put your child through their educational system, you should trust them enough to protect your child in a time of need.

I'm not so sure I agree with the gun in the classroom. But I do like the idea of having at least one weapon on the primises, maybe in the principles office and have that person have the proper training.

First of all, to the guy that was asking if these children had been stabbed with pencils if we'd ban pencils--please. Honestly. Do you really think that you could have kept this many kids quiet while the teacher was being stabbed with a pencil until they died? Do you really think, honestly now, that the death toll would have been as high if a knife was used? I believe the answer to that question is a resounding no. In addition, adding more weapons might be beneficial, but if troubled kids know where the guns are kept, do you think you'll be able to keep these kids from taking and using them on other kids? Adding more guns into this equation is a troubling solution. I'd rather see school districts given more money to hire campus police or alternatively well-trained armed security than arming teachers.

YES, an amazing idea that is already on the books - aka the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution. Just get the progressive socialist libtards and big R republicans out of the way. Give this politician a medal for trying.

Or, we could just ban all firearms and spoons. Because spoons are evil too! They made Rosie O'donnell fat! And cars!! Those nasty evil cars kill more people than guns every year! We should get rid of those too!

My elementary school children are allowed calculators in math class (well, mine aren't). Upon talking to the principal, he fully backs the idea. I can't even trust him to not academically handicap his students, now I'm supposed to trust him with a gun?

Just look at OCCC a year or so back... A miscommunication about a school shooting in Tacoma, Washington led to the lock down and evacuation of Oklahoma City Community College. While responding to the initial report of a gunman, a CLEET-certified campus security guard who discharged his weapon while storming the library. All for a non-existent threat.

I'm angry and heartbroken and frustrated that another one of these horrible shootings has taken place, but I'm hopeful that we're finally discussing a meaningful solution to prevent more innocent people from being killed. I'll do absolutely everything in my power to help this be passed into law.
