Just read this in the Oklahoman. I live at Medford and this really peaks my interest. I will see what I can find out from some elderly Medford people. If decendents are not found, my son is President of the 1893 Land Run Historical Center being built in Medford and would be interested in placing the articles in the museum. Please keep me informed.

Okay, using the info from Ancestry (where I now have a 14-day free trial membership) I haven't come up with much more than the notion that Darline and Dorothy would be 84 and 85 years old now. I have phoned a Darline who is in Blytheville, AR, and left a message that will either prompt a phone call from a relative or cause someone to think that I'm a stranger completely out of her mind :) . Carrie, I hope you are okay with this, I also gave the Denver Post a call about reprinting your piece. It might prompt some response here if they re-run it in Colorado. Dang...I'm getting hopeful!

I now know that the Joe True in your pictures of letters and envelopes is the father of Mitchell E. (True) Hardin She has several siblings. You have found such a wonderful treasure for this family. I truly hope they find this Web site, and will be able to let you know that that they would love to have this wonderful tin that you now possess.

Alyse, you are so thoughtful to have done this. Looking at the picture of the two little girls that was included, I wondered if it might be Darline and Dorothy.

Someone from that family would have to feel this to be a real treasure. If it was my family, I would be so grateful.

The last name "Hardin" is in these papers somewhere. I am sure you have found her and her family. I live in Jefferson County and Lakewood is a stone's throw from here (although I bought the papers in Golden). I don't know if Dorothy and Darline would want their mom's letter but I think it's a real heirloom.

I believe the Mitchelle who wrote the letter, was born 1906 in Nebraska, and was married to Theodore A. Hardin, born 1902 in Kansas, son of Florence & John Hardin. In the 1930 Federal U. S. Census, 'Mitchell E.' and Theodore Hardin are living in Valley, Grant County, Oklahoma. Theodore is farming. Two daughters, Dorothy, and Darline are with them. A family tree found on Ancestry.com reveals that "Mitchell Estelle Hardin" died in 2005, in Lakewood, Jefferson County, Colorado.

This article was very interesting. Thank you for sharing!
