Honey Springs Battle Site to be National Historic Landmark
The Honey Springs Battlefield in McIntosh and Muskogee Counties has been designated as national historic landmark, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Director of the National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis announced Monday.
The Civil War battlefield was one of 13 national historic landmarks announced.
“These national historic landmark designations span more than two centuries of our country’s history, from 17th century architecture to a Civil War battlefield to a 19th century-Kentucky whiskey distillery that continued to operate through the Prohibition era,” Salazar said.…

Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Muskogee, is among the Republican senators invited to have dinner with President Barack Obama at a Washington hotel, Coburn’s press secretary said.
The president has been reaching out to GOP senators this week to talk about a major deficit reduction deal. Coburn was among those called by the president.

Freshman Rep. Markwayne Mullin, R-Westville, appealed for bipartisanship Monday in a speech on the floor of the U.S. House.

Rep. Frank Lucas, R-Cheyenne, has a lifetime rating from the free-market conservative group Club for Growth of nearly 70 percent. But it’s not 70 percent; it’s 68 percent.
