James Taylor’s Favorite Song That He Wrote: Sweet Baby James

Just in case you ever wondered, James Taylor’s favorite self-penned song is “Sweet Baby James,” which he wrote for a nephew named after him.
Taylor appeared Friday at a National Press Club luncheon, where he sang and talked politics and music and thoroughly entertained the crowd.
The appearance, recorded by C-SPAN, will likely be shown again. It is now on the station’s home page.
Taylor, who campaign for President Barack Obama and sang at the Democratic National Convention in North Carolina, is a self-described liberal but said he sees the need for a strong Republican Party. Both parties are necessary to offset the natural inclinations of each other, he said.
Asked about celebrities getting involved in politics, he said they should do it if they feel strongly about it. He obviously does. He named all the candidates he has worked for, stretching back to the late George McGovern, the unsuccessful Democratic presidential nominee in 1972.

Sen. Tom Coburn Gets Mention at Democratic Convention, Oklahoma Democrats Boo

Rep. Chris Van Hollen, of Maryland, the top Democrat on the House Budget Committee, was actually trying to praise Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Muskogee, when he mentioned him in his speech at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night, but Oklahoma delegates booed anyway.
Here is what Van Hollen said:
“So when President Obama took office, the Republicans handed him the bill: projected deficits of trillions of dollars. Congressman Ryan, America is literally in your debt. So President Obama got to work. He established a bipartisan commission to get smart folks from both parties together to develop a plan to reduce the deficit and grow jobs. Guess what? It worked. They produced a balanced, bipartisan plan that would cut $4 trillion from the deficit. Lots of Republicans supported it, including Senator Coburn from Oklahoma. And Paul Ryan. He was on the commission. He voted against the plan.”

Rep. James Lankford to Hold Town Hall Meeting Tuesday; Tom Guild in Charlotte

Rep. James Lankford, R-Oklahoma City, has scheduled a town hall meeting in Oklahoma City for 6 p.m. on Tuesday. The congressman, who was in Tampa last week for the Republican National Convention, will provide updates on issues and take questions. The meeting will be held at:

Meanwhile, Tom Guild, of Edmond, who is Lankford’s Democratic opponent this year, is a delegate to the Democratic National Convention.

Oklahoma Democrats Hit Charlotte

CHARLOTTE _ Many of Oklahoma’s delegates and guests to the Democratic National Convention have arrived here for the Democratic National Convention, with more on the way. The convention starts Tuesday evening. First Lady Michelle Obama speaks that night.
On Sunday, some of the state’s top Democratic officials went to the Time Warner Cable Arena to work through some of the logistics. The first two nights of the convention are in the arena.
Christine Byrd, political director for the Oklahoma Democratic Party, David Scott, the IT Director, Dana Orwig, the vice-chairman of the state party, Trav Robertson, the executive director, and Betty McElderry, the state party’s national committeewoman, posed with U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, of Florida, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, on the arena stage.
