Sen. Tom Coburn Says Background Check Compromise is Unworkable
Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Muskogee, said Wednesday that a compromise on background checks for gun purchases wouldn’t work. Coburn was part of the negotiations on expanded background checks but dropped out a few weeks ago. On Wednesday, Sens. Joe Manchin, a West Virginia Democrat, and Pat Toomey, a Pennsylvania Republican, announced that they had reached agreement on a background check proposal. Here is Coburn’s statement:

U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn Schedules Town Hall Meetings for Week of April 1; Stops Include Norman and Oklahoma City
Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Muskogee, has scheduled a series of town hall meetings in Oklahoma for the week of April 1.

Rep. Markwayne Mullin Encourages Public Comments on Keystone XL Pipeline
Rep. Markwayne Mullin, R-Westville, is trying to help people submit public comments to the U.S. State Department regarding the proposal to build the northern leg of the Keystone XL pipeline to carry crude from Canada to Nebraska.
The State Department is taking public comments until April 22.
Mullin has provided electronic and physical addresses for submitting comments on his website.

Sen. Tom Coburn to Have Dinner with President Barack Obama on Wednesday
Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Muskogee, is among the Republican senators invited to have dinner with President Barack Obama at a Washington hotel, Coburn’s press secretary said.
The president has been reaching out to GOP senators this week to talk about a major deficit reduction deal. Coburn was among those called by the president.

Rep. Markwayne Mullin Appeals for Bipartisanship in Speech on House Floor
Freshman Rep. Markwayne Mullin, R-Westville, appealed for bipartisanship Monday in a speech on the floor of the U.S. House.
Mullin won his seat last fall in Oklahoma’s 2nd District, which is overwhelmingly Democratic by registration. He replaced the only Democrat in the state’s congressional delegation, Rep. Dan Boren, who retired.
