Oklahoma City Teacher Invited to First Lady’s Box for State of the Union Speech
Susan Bumgarner, a pre-kindergarten teacher at Wilson Arts Integration Elementary School in Oklahoma City, has been invited to sit in first lady Michelle Obama’s box for the State of the Union speech on Tuesday.
Bumgarner, a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, has written curriculum, trained Head Start teachers, taught infants and toddlers and prepared parents in Early Birds readiness classes.
She has been teaching at Wilson Arts Integration since 1992.
The first lady’s box will include middle-class Americans representing the policy proposals the president is expected to outline in his speech, according to the White House.
In November, Bumgarner was named a finalist for the 2013 Oklahoma City Public Schools Teacher of the Year award.
Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett was a guest in the first lady’s box in 2010 because of his work to fight obesity.

This is the coolest thing I have ever read about one of our classmates. PLEASE shake Mrs. Obama’s hand and tell her we love her. I’ll be looking for you and your wacky glasses.
Wow. What an honor. It is hard to believe someone I actually know will be in Michele Obama’s box where the camera will be aimed many times. Susan is such a great person. So glad for her.
First Lady Michaelle could not have a better companion for the event. Susan is about the nicest person I ever met. Hooray for Oklahoma being so well represented!
Congrats Susan, be sure to tell moochelle, that I am sick and tired of hearing about all her vacations and her muslim way of life. Can you tell her to at least let the family dog fly on the same airplane. So we do not have to pay for that?
Also quit spending money we do not have, and appointing known criminals to high ranking positions.
A budget would also be nice.
