Rep. James Lankford Only Oklahoman Voting Against Fiscal Cliff Deal
Rep. James Lankford, R-Oklahoma City, was the only member of Oklahoma’s congressional delegation who voted against the fiscal cliff deal on Tuesday. Both of Oklahoma’s senators supported it, and four of the five House members voted aye late Tuesday night.
Among the four House members supporting it were outgoing Reps. Dan Boren, D-Muskogee, and John Sullivan, R-Tulsa. Both of those members will be leaving the House on Thursday, when their replacements will be sworn in.
Rep. Tom Cole, R-Moore, said Wednesday, “This agreement is far from perfect, but preventing the largest tax increase in history and making tax cuts permanent for 98 percent of taxpayers is a major victory for American workers and for the economy.
“While I would prefer a combination of tax cuts and spending cuts, passage of this bill lays the groundwork for significant spending reductions in the coming weeks. With tax rate increases off the table, President Obama and Senate Democrats will be forced to confront reality and accept spending and entitlement reforms.
“Passage of permanent tax relief ensures that the upcoming budget debates will be solely focused on spending restraint.
“Congress will have three significant opportunities in the next three months to reduce the deficit when we debate the debt ceiling, the across-the-board sequestration cuts, and the government funding bill that expires in March. The fiscal cliff is certainly not the last debate we’ll have over spending, but it is the last time President Obama will be able to threaten massive tax increases to avoid addressing the real causes of our debt.”

Obama needs to cut the size of goverment, US goverment is twice the size it was when he took office. He allso needs to cut spending in all area’s of our Goverment. We need real change in Washington and I don’t think Obama knows how to do it?
James Lankford is a right wing radical who has the IQ of a gnat and should be removed from office for failure to perform his sworn responsibility to represent his constituents.
I concur with Ms. Nibride’s comment. Except liking his IQ to that of a gnats’. That may just possibly be giving him too much credit.
85% of National Debt was under all Republican presidents–Reagan, Bush, Bush, Now 85% of the intrest is on their debt. Stop saying Obama is increasing the debt. He is only paying the bills of those before him. His main increase is taking care of the wounded vets from the Bush wars. Ben Zoeller
Rep Langford claims to be a super Chritian–that’s the only real work he ever did. And he votes for the RICH??? Thosse two things are contradictory. In Matthew, Jesus said you can get into heaven only by feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick—Langford just added aiding and abeting the super rich! Ben Zoelloer
I appreciate Congressman Lankford standing by his principles and waiting for a bill that addresses the reduction of the national debt and excessive spending – less government and duplication by our lawmakers and President.
@Ben–
Get your facts straight and Stop it with the criticism from the Bible- the Lord said you ‘will always have the poor with you’,and also ‘if a man doesn’t work, he doesn’t eat’. Does that make him ‘anti-poor’ or ‘pro-rich’?? NO! Jesus is all about ‘personal accountability and personal responsibility’! Langford absolutely voted correctly –NOT to help the rich get richer—but to allow the ‘rich’who rightfully EARNED their money to keep their money, which THEY CAN NOW RE-INVEST IN CREATING MORE JOBS FOR ninnies like you! Who do you think we owe job creation to? Obama?? He’s lost more than he could ever create. It’s the people we’re now TAXING TO DEATH, the upper class that creates all the jobs, and now 600,000 jobs will probably be lost b/c of this HUGE tax hike with NO REDUCTION IN SPENDING WHATSOEVER!
Outrageous!
Rep Lankford is the only smart American in the bunch. He understands robbing Peter to Pay Paul you still have to answer in the end. cut spending first and build jobs and then the money will flow.
