Perhaps the biggest threat that an empowered EPA would have is on the oil and gas industry via new regulations concerning hydraulic fracturing, a process which will likely make the USA a leader in energy exports by 2020. Currently, this drilling process is regulated on a state-by-state basis but the EPA is scheduled to come out with new rules governing hydraulic fracturing sometime next year.
