Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Muskogee, who has been a frequent and harsh critic of the Democratic leadership in the U.S. Senate, will be part of a segment on CBS’ “60 Minutes” on Sunday about the Senate.
According to a press release from the show, the segment on the “dysfunctional Senate” will also include a joint interview with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky.
Coburn’s frustration boiled over to the point that, in July, he said on C-SPAN that Reid was “incompetent and incapable of carrying on the tradition of the Senate.”
Coburn later apologized on the Senate floor, but he hasn’t backed off his criticism of the Senate leadership.
In the show, Coburn tells Kroft, “It’s pure leadership. When the goal is always to win the next election, rather than to put the country on the right course, whether it’s a Republican leading it or… a Democrat leading it, the Senate is not going to work.”
